What did I miss? What did Brad say?
He, like all of us, had the right to say it but really not the place to do it. Oh well, it was what it was.

“Thank you to the Academy for this honor of honors,” said Pitt during his acceptance speech, before making a jibe at the US Senate. "They told me I only had 45 seconds this year, which is 45 seconds more than the Senate gave John Bolton this week," he said, in reference to a lack of witnesses during President Trump's impeachment trial. "I'm thinking maybe Quentin does a movie about it. In the end, the adults do the right thing." Cue the audience's applause in agreement.

Forgive my ignorance of the state of politics in the US, but why is this making people lose their shit?
It’s not like he stood up and said the Earth is flat or the moon was made of cheese right?

It's not but it finally gave me a reason to express my undying devotion for Jen Aniston in public. Otherwise I wouldn't care.

I have to admit I have lost my shit a little over the purely political impeachment. Basically if politics continues like this, the Democrats will eliminate any president they disagree with for absolutely no reason. And quite a few sheeple will think that it's ok. "The ends justify the means." Trump didn't commit any crimes and we have no evidence, but we disagree with him so kick him out. And some say even throw him in jail! If we had Democrats controlling the Senate as well as the House they would have been able to basically undo the last presidential election.

I find it terrifying, frankly. Lawlessness and public officials being able to spy on and jail people that they disagree with? NO repercussions for those people? And a large percentage of the US population thinking that it's ok? The US is right on the edge of becoming Venezuela or Hitler's Germany in my opinion.

Pitt's public comments and the fact that he was applauded for them worry me as they are symptomatic of a terrible problem the US currently has.

You have my explanation.

Good morning Hack,
Please be really careful about comparing anyone other than those who are pro Trump as being Nazi's. That's a line that no one on here should cross. Especially when discussing this topic from someone on the other side of the pond. Everyone has his or her opinions regarding our American politics. This is truths and untruths coming out of both side daily. But neither side is or will ever be responsible for the death of over 10 million people.

Pitt's public comments and the fact that he was applauded for them worry me as they are symptomatic of a terrible problem the US currently has.
That said Burkey, Hack's thoughts are a perfect example as to why we are all losing our shit. We do have a terrible problem. It is called the 1st amendment. It's OK to say whatever you want so long as it is nothing negative about Donald Trump. Do that and you are considered un-American. Now that's not the way every Trump supporter feels, of course, but it is the position of his highly vocal "base". This country is so polarized that free speech is only free when you take one side or the other. Everything the conservative right does is an approved by G-d and everything the liberal left does is an act of the devil. That's just the way it is now. I pray that it changes. By the way, full disclosure, I am neither a conservative republican or liberal democrat. I look at what both sides have to say and make up my own mind.
