People couldn't figure out why the recovery was so slow. When you have a president whose only job was community organizer, well, are we REALLY surprised?

Investing.com -- A new study by economists from Harvard and Princeton indicates that 94% of the 10 million new jobs created during the Obama era were temporary positions.

The study shows that the jobs were temporary, contract positions, or part-time "gig" jobs in a variety of fields.

Female workers suffered most heavily in this economy, as work in traditionally feminine fields, like education and medicine, declined during the era.

The research by economists Lawrence Katz of Harvard University and Alan Krueger at Princeton University shows that the proportion of workers throughout the U.S., during the Obama era, who were working in these kinds of temporary jobs, increased from 10.7% of the population to 15.8%.

Krueger, a former chairman of the White House Council of Economic Advisers, was surprised by the finding.

The disappearance of conventional full-time work, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. work, has hit every demographic. “Workers seeking full-time, steady work have lost,” said Krueger.

Under Obama, 1 million fewer workers, overall, are working than before the beginning of the Great Recession.

The outgoing president believes his administration was a net positive for workers, however.

"Since I signed Obamacare into law (in 2010), our businesses have added more than 15 million new jobs," said Obama, during his farewell press conference last Friday, covered by Investing.com.

I'm not seeing the problem here.

The trend in how people work there is a reason that people refer to it as a "gig economy" now. More people are contract workers or work on a single task/job then move to a new client or job. Many people prefer working this way. Its the type of thing that allows companies like Lyft, Door Dash and Uber to exist.

People that I know nowadays do not WANT full regular office jobs and they look down on you as slow-moving if you are with a company for more than 3yrs and not jumping to a title or pay increase at a new business.

That Gig economy is a large part of why we are at a 50 year low. Just look at the Unemployment trend, it's a nearly straight line till you hit 2016-17: https://tradingeconomics.com/united-states/unemployment-rate

For comparison, Fulltime growth is not changed its growth trend since 2010: https://tradingeconomics.com/united-states/full-time-employment

Parttime skyrocketed when the economy bombed and never dropped off as the Gig-economy became the new norm and businesses formed to take advantage of it: https://tradingeconomics.com/united-states/part-time-employment

The Market has been performing at near the same trend: https://tradingeconomics.com/united-states/stock-market

Same for GDP: https://tradingeconomics.com/united-states/gdp

The problem is that people took the work that was available, not desired. Obama had the brakes full on hard with regulation of the economy on full tilt. It is why working age men didn't re-enter the economy. Those same people are re=entering the economy now. It is why Trump approval in many Black voter polls is touching 30%, which has the D's crapping their pants. Many things that D's promised blacks, Trump has actually done, and it is being noticed. This despite 95% negative coverage by the MSM, amazing.

So if everything is so wonderful today, why go back to what happened four years ago. What’s the point? Yes, we know that Trump is the greatest human being to ever walk the Earth. That point has been made numerous times. Why this continuous obsession with Obama. Just let it go.

LMAOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO I'm actually laughing IRL, it literally takes 5mins to not look stupid. You can't seriously have read the article cited, get click baited more. Either you're completely oblivious to what words mean or you read as well as Floyd Mayweather.

The study cited doesn't talk about part-time work at all, it talks about the growth of alternative jobs: entrepreneurs, uber drives, etc. The study was tracking "The percentage of workers engaged in alternative work arrangements – defined as temporary help agency workers, on-call workers, contract workers, and independent contractors or freelancers"

If you don't want to go to the link of the article here's the abstract:

"Abstract: To monitor trends in alternative work arrangements, we conducted a version of the Contingent Worker Survey as part of the RAND American Life Panel in late 2015. The findings point to a significant rise in the incidence of alternative work arrangements in the U.S. economy from 2005 to 2015. The percentage of workers engaged in alternative work arrangements – defined as temporary help agency workers, on-call workers, contract workers, and independent contractors or freelancers – rose from 10.7 percent in February 2005 to 15.8 percent in late 2015. The percentage of workers hired out through contract companies showed the largest rise, increasing from 1.4 percent in 2005 to 3.1 percent in 2015. Workers who provide services through online intermediaries, such as Uber or Task Rabbit, accounted for 0.5 percent of all workers in 2015. About twice as many workers selling goods or services directly to customers reported finding customers through offline intermediaries than through online intermediaries."

The fact none of the metrics above agree with you just tells me you are wrong.

Also going off of almost 3-month-old data doesn't help when currently polling shows an average of 13% black approval for Trump and that only 9% would vote for him over Biden. The poll that gave him 34% was a poll of fewer than 200 people, and it wasn't stated where that poling took place. This website is a larger sample size than that poll was. For example in NC, which is about 21-22% black population almost every Dem candidate is polling ahead of Trump, in some cases by a large margin. https://emersonpolling.reportablene...ly-lead-on-trump-and-democratic-primary-field

"multiple" polls show Trumps support over 20% and surging.

Y'all missed the obvious. By working less than 30 hours per week you avoided the health insurance that you were required to purchase and companies were required to provide. Remember that?

Exactly. Adding giveaways hurt the American worker - big time.

This isn’t just about the government. My son in law recently moved here from NJ. He worked for Home Depot and was able to transfer to his local store. He started as part time because they had no full time positions. That was in October. He is still part time. Why? The few full time jobs he was offered way for lower pay. He would have worked more hours for the same money. Why? Part timers cost the company less in benefits than full timers. Business has to shoulder some of the blame for this.

Your son in law just has to make a decision whether he prefers higher pay or having benefits. Don't blame a business for offering choices to employees.

Definitely a job like working at Home Depot is the kind of job where employees can benefit if the unemployment rate gets really low. It's lower level positions that are easy to fill unless most people already have good jobs.
