2015 GT vs. Lexus RC F

So M/T tested the new lexus rc f and released numbers yesterday. I doubt it will be cross-shopped with the GT, but the performance is very close (to the s197) and likely to tilt even more once we see s550 numbers. For the rc f they got:

0-60: 4.5 sec
1/4 mile: [email protected]
60-0: 108 ft
skidpad: .95

Power: 5.0L, 467 hp/389 lb-ft
EPA mpg est.: 16/25/19
Curb weight: 4040 lbs :tsk:
Base price: 63k

Personally I think I'll save 30 grand and stick with the 5.0.

Im not in the market at that price range but I hope the RC F is a hit. Whats not to like about a nice luxury sports car with a V8 and Lexus quality behind it...


Everything I've read about this car has stated its amazing. The seats alone look nice enough to curl up and sleep in..

The only flaw I can find would be the lack of manual transmission.

It's a cool looking car, no manual and expect the prices with options to get to the 70k area.

The numbers are very comparable and the interior is gorgeous.

However, many threads complaining about weight here we have the reason why all the technical nannies and more lush interiors add weight along with all the safety requirements. Tipping the scales at over 4k is like yikes.

Again with this price point doesn't it have to be compared to the GT350? I always have a hard time comparing 30-40k GT with cars twice it's price just because the performance numbers are close.

MPG numbers are not bad for the weight, most buyers won't look at this.

M4 will not beat it by 3 to 1, but it will be 10 to 1.
RS5 is Direct Injected modern V8 with AWD.
2016 C63 AMG will have turbo 4L V8.

I have a hard time seeing why anyone will pick this car over the Germans.

Coming to Mustang GT, it has weight advantage.
It would be interesting.

This is why cars like the Mustang GT are such a value in my opinion. A car that out performs the "luxury sport" segment while costing half the price. I'll be real interested to see how it stacks up to the BMW M4.

Am I the only one who doesn't like the interior of the RCF? The seats are cool the rest seems like somewhat typical bland/unfocused design.

Because it's a unique looking car with a powerful V8 and awesome interior built by a company that builds the most reliable cars in the auto industry

The exterior is ok. Seats are sweet but the dash is FUGLY

Because Lexus six sigma reliability...

90% of the capabilities - 0% of the "German" problems.

Would I trade almost 100% reliability for 10% in gains, you bet ya!

I really like the interior, except for the steering wheel. Airbag/horn area is far too large IMO.

The rest of the interior is very nice looking to me. Reminds me of a '70's HiFi system in a way, with the nice machined metal knobs (or at least metal looking). I really like that the nav screen is integrated into the dash rather than tacked on like in the latest German offerings.

I also really like that the engine is naturally aspirated. I haven't heard a video of it yet, but I bet it sounds great.

The weight and lack of manual transmission is disappointing. I'm also not a big fan of the exterior. The rear end is OK, but the front doesn't work for me.

Very glad to see Lexus making a car like this. I do think they have something to offer the segment. Some comparison reviews will be illuminating.

Personally I don't like anything about it. The exterior looks like a Mish-mash of disjointed lines and shapes mashed into a BMW M-3/4 Mold. I hate the new Lexus Corporate Grill, and paired with the Odd shaped headlights and Nike Swoosh LED under cut signature lighting, It makes the front of the car look like a Cross Eyed Cylon that got Punched in the face. The Dash is just as big of a mess. It literally looks like someone sorted through a box of leftover parts and forced them together and slapped some Leather here and there to try and make it go together. They're really trying too hard to be Different. In my opinion, Clean, Elegant, Simple Design is what a car in this price class needs, not a design that will look ridiculously dated in a few years. The current trend in Japanese Design is just Odd to Be Odd, much like it was in the 70's.

Just look at the Horrible Mess of the Sculpting of the Front End and Front Fenders. That is one of the Ugliest, most Convoluted front Fender Lines I've ever seen. Just Hideous.

The Rear looks like sombody slapped a couple of different Body Kits on a Corrola to me.
