The all-new, all-electric Mustang Mach-E. It’s fast. It’s fun. It’s freedom. For a new generation of Mustang owners.” Bill Ford

This is what it's all about- new generation. I'm sure they did a lot of consumer studies and found out that the next generation of car buyers are not going to buy 5.0 Mustang coupes in any significant volume and they didn't want to let an iconic badge die like the GTO or 442.

Except most of these will be bought by Boomer women, especially given the price. While I think it will hold some appeal to certain Millennials, they usually can't or have no desire to spend that much on a vehicle.

Except that’s not how it will go, no one I know wants their high performance mustang sitting next to a little suv , with the same name. Yuck
Maybe in North Dakota, but in any metro, urban area (80% of US population) people will have different views. I run into this all the time restoring old bikes. Older guys want it original- like when they were growing up. Younger guys want a cafe style resto-mod. Age matters and Ford knows us old guys are dying out and leaving our estates to a younger generation who don't like the same stuff we grew up with. Honestly, If I bought one, I would take the ponys off of it anyways. They just look tacked on. Probably be 1000 Chinese made MachE emblems to replace the ponys on ebay in a couple months, lol.

Not sure they're going after millennials with this. Maybe GenX and boomers. Most of the GenX folks I know are doing pretty well and able to afford a 40K car pretty easily. I also think that most of these will be leased.

I’m 27. Just FYI. 4 of my buddies , who also race new mustangs , share the same opinion as I , as do most people in Facebook , Twitter , Instagram, etc. Ford lost grip with reality, bigtime.

At least in my experience and thinking of my local area, most Gen Xer's are in prime family age, they tend to have Minivans, larger SUV's, or 4 door sedans for daily drivers. CUV's around here are almost exclusively used by old women, to the point that they are even the ones usually driving slow on the roads, like old people in Buicks used to do back in the day.

To what government indulgences are you referring to?
ZEV credits.
Have you ever actually seen a Tesla in person and sat in one before? I have had 2 S550s that had worse panel alignment and quality issues then my current Tesla.
I see them all the time. There's an original Tesla roadster parked outside my window.
I've ridden in the S and X several times.

The S550 cars cost ~half of a Tesla. So worse workmanship can be forgiven.

The Venn diagram is completely separate if you assume people are only buying 1 car for 1 purpose. But that is not most of America. I can easily see a garage with a GT350 or 5.0 on one side and the MachE on the other. That is what Ford is shooting for. And maybe a F150 sitting in the driveway.
I can see that happening as well. And it wouldn't depend on all or any part of the Mach E's name.

Sure, I could definitely see owning one of these with my GT350 and my girlfriend's 5.0.

I was more referring to those who are furious about the use of the "mustang" name, and are going so far as to swear off Ford vehicles in the future. These people never would have looked at a BEV in the first place, and I bet the gamble on whether or not they'll actually never buy a Ford again is worth it.

False. Tesla and now Ford have not made a BEV that I'm interested in enough to buy, and to be honest, is mostly because of the atrocious interior layout/huge screen. Get rid of that and I'd give a hard look at a Model 3 performance.

My current vehicle is the last I plan to give FoMoCo money for.

I think that Ford should have gone with your philosophy and made this vehicle sporty and inexpensive for the youth. However, they didn't do that. It's priced like it's for older people, featuring technology that only someone who can afford multiple vehicles will use (due to range and time to recharge).

I don't know how they decided to do that or who convinced them it would work. Maybe there's a huge, untapped market of rich but young people living deep in urban centers who nevertheless have big garages that can store extra vehicles. It seems unlikely to me.

I think you're fighting a losing battle. The interior screens have only gotten more and more popular, just look at how many awards the new Ram truck has received because of the screen and interior.

If the BEV had your exact interior as you have now, you'd get one?

Even though I'm one of the first to say I want vehicles powered by explosions and that only, I would consider an electric vehicle. Once the price is similar to a vehicle with an ICE and I can fill up the battery in less than 5 minutes it will be a possible commuter car. Oh, and I need to see that the batteries last at least 100,000 miles with typical use.

I might buy only Fords in the future, but never buy another new Ford. It really doesn't take much to make a change like that. And a used vehicle is much cheaper than brand new. It's more in my self-interest to save my money rather than buying new and giving that money to Ford. I'm not really a vindictive person and I forgive easily, but it doesn't take a huge effort on my part to make a change like this.
