I am sticking with the GT500 since I want a Mustang pure and simple. I think the C8 is amazing looking and the performance sounds like it is going to be great but it is not the Mustang that I’ve admired and enjoyed all my life.

I think we so often get in dick measuring contests regarding performance and weight that ultimately doesn’t matter for most of us who will only drive the car for leisure.

Chevy did it right though in the design. That thing looks like the super car that the Vette should be.
Ford doesn’t use any premium materials in there cars. $70k+ car with the same dash board as a base model EcoBoost. They couldn’t add the premium leather wrapped dash. Very disappointing.

This is an important thread and really I was expecting it to show.

GM blew my away with the price, it’s just smart.

What if ford used a coyote with a blower making 720hp to reduce the base price to 65k. Yay nay?

I'm not even sure who the "no ones" are, and why anyone would GAF :D

Seriously, I notice a '68 Charger as much as I notice a McLaren 720s, I think there are car guys who have a wide appreciation for all vehicles, and some flavor-of-the-week people who will ogle over a C8, until the market is saturated (or they're distracted by something on YouTube ...)
Ha; “flavor of the week.” You’re talking to a life long car guy. I also notice cars of every genre. But you’re talking about a ME Vette decades in the making. Flavor of the week my a$$. Fact is, for less $$ than the base GT500, one can buy a decently equipped Z51 ME Corvette that will most likely beat it at every category except for 1/4 mile. It will go 0-60 faster, handle better, brake better, track better, and look better, and turn way more heads than a GT500. I love my GT, and I doubly love the GT500, but if I walked outside and the two were parked next to each other, you better believe I’m checking out the Vette first, over an [awesome special edition] S550 Mustang in its 6th model year. As would most people. I don’t care what “most people” think, what matters to me is what I think, and I know I would be drawn to the ME Vette first.

The C8 Z06 with whatever track edition (much less the ZR1) if given a similar drivetrain as the C7 Z06 is going to be a world beater and compete with the likes of McLaren, Porsche GT2, Ferrari Pista, and Lamborghini Huracan for the same price as a CFTP GT500. I can only imagine where the next ZR1 is going. I can hardly wait.

All they would have to do is use the 10 speed trans to drop the price by $5 to $10k.

We were going to trade the Mustang in on a vette 2 years ago. We sat in a C7. And changed our minds immediately! It was a gymnastics event getting in or out. Im 6.2-270. They did say with the cab forward design. In the C8 gained an inch of seat travel. But looking at the interior pics.. It still looks like a tight fit for anyone bigger than 5.9. I fit in pony cars very comfortably.

And that’s why a lot of people like the Challenger too, it’s comfortable in the cab. The first thing I thought looking at the ME Corvette was not what their racing specs were, it was the cabin and how tight it looked. It reminded me of the new NSX, which I sat in at the Detroit Auto Show. It wasn’t comfortable at all. The practicality is not all engine and racing, it’s driving around comfortably most days.

Thank you for pointing that out. I completely changed my mind on the GT500 because of your well thought out argument that addressed my points on why I want to buy the best mustang ever produced. /s

Plus for those of us with kids and want to take some road trips the back seat and trunk space of the Mustang is much more practical. (At least that is what I tell my wife)

I've enjoyed having a back seat - we have a little G (*sigh*, she's getting so big ...), anyway, I've done a few fun cruises, some trips down to Universal where I also hit up Ace Cafe for a cruise-in, I was able to take the three of us.

That wouldn't be an option with a Vette .

I've actually owned 4 Vettes, did an NCM delivery on one, hell, my user ID on the Corvette forums is in the 300s (20+ years registered), I love them, but seating 3 ( 2 + an 11 year old) has been awesome.

Chevy said the C8 cabin is larger than C7. The door sills are also lower since it doesn’t use a carbon tub. They also talked a lot about daily drivability in the reveal. Visibility is also better due to lower hood/dash. Don’t rush to judgment based on pics / video alone.

Its just going to be embarrassing if the vette is faster in the 1/4 mile with 495hp and the mustang is making 760...man it sucks that this car is making me reconsider and I never even thought I would! Watch ford come back and reduce the price of the gt500 by 10-15k somehow lol
Reducing the price would just be increasing how long they are willing to wait to get their ROI on the R&D on the 500 or decide to produce more to spread the cost out.
If my deal falls apart Ill be the first guy to buy a 80k Z51 mid engine corvette.

The price point is going to be a win for GM. Most car buyers aren't brand loyal, nor are they hardcore enthusiasts like most here. They are going to look at the C8 as "A Vette" vs the GT500 as "a Mustang". You can buy a mid engine Vette, the flagship car of GM's fleet for 60k. That is going to be a big sell for dealers. It looks good, it will likely handle good and is fast. Most car buyers don't need 740hp, 495 is plenty. Hell the amount of Mustang memes proves most drivers can't handle north of 400hp anyways.

I am a Ford guy, but I have to give props to GM on this one. Ford appears to be getting caught with it's pants down again.

And I have to say they kind of deserve it. The dealers are the ones that really needed a kick in the nuts. How's the ADM looking now? Discount maybe? That's what you get when you show up late at the party! How long ( how many years) has everyone been waiting for Ford to produce this GT500? Now the DCT ony makes perfect sense. Without the DCT you would probably be looking at 0-60 in low 4's. They are talking less than 3 seconds on the base model.
