Steeda, K&N, Roush, and Holley seem to be the closed CAIs. K&N isn't really closed but I called their tech support and their 63-2605 Air Charger seals with the hood as a lid. Anyways, I'm preferring one that is non-tune and sealed so I can use a Velossa with it. Anyone seen any head to heads or third party evaluations of these?

For a non tune solution do a drop in filter and call it a day. 18+ is pretty good OEM.

Based on your other thread it seems like you are making changes that are not going to add much power. Your last thread about catted headers w/o a tune and this thread about a no tune CAI. I’ve read over and over here that the stock 18 intake is really the way to go and that the other CAI options really do not make much horsepower at all.

I’d be interested to see what you get out of all this. I don’t mean to be critical I’m just curious. My 18 is completely stock but if I did headers I’d likely go all the way ( and that prevents me as a tune would void the warranty)

They said the same thing with my 16 but no one really knew for sure. It actually was better than many folks expected: 395WHP and 372WTQ on an A6 with 93 octane. Most may scoff but for an A6, that was a respectable gain over stock. 1 7/8" headers with green cats and a Mishimoto CAI were all the engine mods I had. Tune would have taken me over 400WHP for sure but it wasn't the point. I wanted to see what the parts did, not the tune.

Don't get me wrong, I respect tuners quite a bit. There is a lot going on in the engine, making any gain without damaging anything a challenge. But I think folks give them too much credit for what it is. Ford did a decent job with their tune considering all the factors they have to balance. I'm willing to bet if I had taken the Ford performance PP1 tune and dropped it into my car, I would have had a respectable gain (over 400WHP for sure). All that said, what was left on the table compared to an aftermarket tune was probably significantly less than what people think.


Take the red pill and be done with it. E85 tune.
Yeah, maybe for the track but definitely not for daily. Dear lord, I would live at the gas pump.

The 2018+ just seems like it's hardly worth going tuned unless you're tuning out codes for long tube headers. The stock tune is not as conservative as the 15-17's as tuners have shown there is not much to gain power wise with a 93 octane tune. Just adjusting the shift points on the A10 mostly.

That is what I'm seeing which is why I'm going no tune part route. The Gen 2 Coyote responded well to it, I'm expecting the Gen 3 Coyote to do the same.

Didn't know folks were able to get the WOT shifts like drag mode, good to know. Though I don't drag race much, more road course racer myself. Shift point changes will definitely help as well as throttle body response.

E85 would be great if it wasn't for the absolute horrific fuel efficiency. Road course days I can see using a significant amount of fuel when doing HPDE. Guy I race with has FI on 93 and he had to make multiple trips to get fuel during the day. I can only imagine what corn would be like. :D

You would probably do better on E85 n/a than the FI guy on 93. Boosted cars suck a lot of fuel @ wot. I can get 18-19 on hwy no problem on E85. Way cheaper than premium.

I would try a good Flex or E85 tune. I will warn you: There's so much power, it's like heroine... once you try it, you won't want to live without it.
