Thinking about the logistics of it, the upfit would seem to be fairly involved. Since they'll be adding a wheel with an airbag, I would think they'll have to disconnect the battery, add the wheel, mount the airbag, reconnect the battery, clear the codes from the time it was run without an airbag, and then head the car to QC. Doesn't seem like a particularly quick process, could be fairly labor intensive, and might not be the kind of thing they want to do outdoors. If they're not doing it outdoors where the cars are parked, then you have to add "put on a dummy wheel, drive it somewhere, take off the dummy wheel" to the mix.

So, guessing, a half hour process. For 8000 cars, that's 4000 manhours. 10 guys full time for 2.5 months.
It is an unacceptable situation for customers who have already been waiting many months on their orders. There should have been a better plan in place (or some plan at all) which included being able to track and inform the affected retail customers of their vehicle location and status prior to deciding to roll with the production those particular weeks without the steering wheels. Customers like you and me and all the others should not be treated so poorly. Gives me a very bad overall impression of Ford and I hope someone can fix that at least by getting me some type of acceptable outcome. Zooks527 I really really hope delivery in April 2019 is achievable for you!

Oh buddy, with a life like I have with zero good luck, hope is just another 4-letter word. I asked for an update from my dealer a few hours ago and no reply yet. I am beyond pi$$ed now. As a side note - I was just trying to get this car as a fun anniversary gift. Do not have a huge love for the Mustangs but they seem better looking than any others and I was more than willing to give this fun and customer friendly ordering process a shot. Well after all of this mess - my “love” had gone to hate and no end in sight for this anxiety. Not worth it
I understand your frustration, but think of the positive ways this can work for you. You are now one of a special group with a place of unique status here. You have a story that you can tell every time you get with other car people. Your dealer is worried that he might have a car that does not sell as easy as he would like. I know mine would require a unique buyer. You might be able to get some special add ons like floor mats, oil changes, or extended warranty as compensation. Getting angry does you no good and will not solve anything. I once had a Dodge dealership take my deposit and left the country with a small fortune stole from banks, customers and Dodge. I was lucky, I was able to deal with Dodge and got the next year’s model with no loss. I also had the first one off the line and special delivery. After 250,000 miles, I sold it last year.

Thank you I appreciate the words of wisdom and encouragement. I am in a better place today since possibly I can still get a Mustang. We’ll see what magic my dealer can pull with this other almost perfect match to mine. I also will be requesting floor mats and oil changes once all is said and done. There should be no trouble selling my build, just a mostly plain jane Ecoboost velocity blue low gloss black rims. The only gripe I gave right now is that when (if) my build ever gets to the dealer here I hope no one in this town buys it cause then my super special Mustang will have a local twin. But that could work in my favor too since I am not the most tolerant driver....lol - who? me being aggressive on the road officer? Must have been the other Mustang in town lol. Am trying to be postive today...

This is a cross post guys and i see some of you are following the thread of “Orders Placed”. Wanted to drop it in here too.

Good morning everyone quick update. This week i got a call from my dealer saying they heard car would be delivered by the 16th. I watched the days tick down to 1, and never saw it leave Awaiting Shipment. This morning i checked the tracker and saw it now says 22 days and a delivery estimate of 4/7/19. Weather will be great here in PA by then, and i guess i should have expected something like this since it would have been delivered 2 months from my order date had it arrived today. Any thoughts on the 3 week additional delivery time? We had originally thought the 2/25 blend date missed the steering wheel supply issue, but not sure what to think anymore. Thought crossed my mind that maybe a convoy of cars really isn’t coming this way until April, but I’m only 8 hrs away and it’s a high volume dealer.

Not too surprised. With all the chaos the steering wheel thing has caused it makes sense it would affect other parts of the process. I imagine mine will shift to the right also. I am down to 9 days and still in production. I would think they would be on the same truck as my dealer is about a hour away from yours. April was what I was hoping for anyway so works out fine for me.

Hey everyone, first post here but I've been lurking for a while and this forum has been super helpful in figuring out why my order was taking so long. I ordered my GT in September and had a blend date of 2/25 after what was supposedly the magne-ride delays. My car still shows as "In production" but the window sticker has updated several times since then and was last updated on 3/16. Has anyone had their car show up without the tracker showing that it was "In Transit"?

Thanks

Yes, if they are relying solely on the tracking website. I don't know of anyone who's contacted FPC and not seen it go into shipment, assuming they're checking every day or two.

No change. "Awaiting shipment", Estimated Delivery 2/28, 23 days to go.
Bottom date on window sticker is 3/20/19.

FPC said exactly the same thing yesterday afternoon, except for the obviously wrong EDD / Time remaining. They were smart enough to say "Delivery TBD". I'll likely touch base with FPC at the end of the day.

I called FP yesterday as no one was there for chat - they said “still in production” so mine is not ready to ship I guess still...My bottom sticker date is 3/20 as well.

At least your status changed officially on the tracker that is still a good sign. You are on the east coast right? Us Illinois folks likely gonna have to keep waiting until Ford decides they like us lol.

Southeastern Massachusetts.

We're forecast for light snow overnight, so they'll be spraying the roads with ice-melt this afternoon. Still getting into the 20s on some overnights. Because of things like that, the car would spend most of its time sitting in the driveway if I had it right now, so another few weeks is OK.

Hell, if it showed up tomorrow, I'd try to get the dealer to hold it to April 1. When I sold my BMW on February 6, I brought my (just received) annual excise tax bill to town hall to get it adjusted. They charged me for 2 full months ("Sorry, even if you have it for just one day in the month, you pay for the whole month."). It would be worth it just to stick them back them on the $80 or so tax for March on the new one they would want to charge.

JHolly36,

I got the same reply from them yesterday. In Production 2/15, and that's about all we seem to know. It's the great mystery of the ages I guess. Order date was October 1. We were assured it would be here before Christmas. ETA still says March 10. I asked FPC why it still says March 10 for the ETA? The answer: it's just an ETA and may not be correct. Ya think?

Long story short, I ordered this for my wife because it's her dream car and she's spent most of the last 18 months enduring some rough stage IV cancer treatment. I maxed out all of the creature comforts for her (even the heated steering wheel, because chemo makes her more sensitive to the cold), and she can't WAIT to use the active exhaust! Fortunately she's doing really well, but it's still needlessly frustrating. I know our dealer can't do much more than they're doing, and they're very apologetic about something they have little control over, but how hard would it be for Ford to get updates to their dealers?

I'll make sure and post an update whenever ours finally has a change to let everyone know.

I'm encouraged and grateful for those of you who have helped us make sense of the situation. We'll all have our cars soon, and I'm sure they'll be worth the wait!

I am so sorry to hear of your wife’s health issues and then both of you now having to go through the steering wheel ordeal (to say the least) really sucks. Best wishes to you both on these difficult situations, thankfully she is doing well. Wish we could say the same about her dream car.

This was a 20-year anniversary dream car for me and my husband got involved looking for a replacement for my order last week and he did a great job. Am wondering if you could or would want to go that route with your dealer? Maybe you can find something even better than the “who knows when it will get here” ordered car? I am so much better off now mentally since I am only tracking my order out of curiousity vs need.

Good luck and my thoughts on Ford’s customer service for this particular issue?

5-star poop service for us lol
