Wife has made it clear. This is the last ridiculous sports car before we procreate mouth breathers.

I grew up wanting an M car, and my want for an M4 lead me to my first Mustang GT PP. So I am considering an M4, a GT350 and a brand new 18 GT(my wife is telling me to not settle) .

In my searches, I found a 16 GT350 with 12k miles. Sticker was 57 and it's being sold for 42.9k. It grabbed my attention, so I reached out to the dealer(who is also out of state). They told me it was dealer bought back. They said nothing was wrong and sent me the buy back information. It said that the AC was blowing hot air multiple times and the car wouldn't start (battery died).

It sounded like the owner was trying to get out of the car (literally six complaints about the AC). More than likely everyone will suggest walking, but I have to imagine a sweet deal could be had.

What do you guys think!? If not, I will continue my search for a 350, M4 or even settle on a new 18.

Love to hear thoughts!

I would never purchase a buy back vehicle. In addition to potentially buying someone else’s problems the car always will show in its history it was bought back.
Just for clarification. Was it a dealer buy back or a lemon car that was purchased back by the manufacturer and being resold by the dealer?

Have you driven an M4?

I had the same 3 cars on my list earlier this year.

It took me a few weeks to find a manual trans f80 M3 or M4 but I finally found one locally to drive. Overall it was a huge letdown. Fast, sure, but the amount of low end tq it creates makes it a frustrating experience on the street. It also didn't sound great, not bad really, but not good. Exhausts don't do much for that either, the motor simply doesn't sound good in general.

The interior was nice, good room, better quality inside than the mustang but disappointing when compared to other cars its price new. It also had some squeaks and rattles with only 2 years old and 15k miles.

I then drove an 18 GT and really liked it. I was looking at the pp2 car, but just drive a pp1. It takes a solid stance.between a 15gt pp and the gt350 in terms of feel and performance. I'd have had no problems settling for one of these and I was actually calling trying to find the best deal on ordering one.

Then I drove the gt350. I had lusted for years but the price kept me away. After driving one twice I knew I couldn't settle. I then stumbled into a killer deal just an hour and a half away on a new 17 and bought it. It's unreal. The car oozes character.

Hope this helps, ask any questions you may have. Good luck.

This was really helpful. I'll look into other models. It was really worth considering if it could be had for cheap

Yes, I have! It's definitely not without issues, the M4. My wife told me not to give up on it. It absolutely lacks character. I haven't driven a GT350 yet either. So I am clueless to the experience. I'll always love the M4 though.

I am definitely a bit all over the place.

Bought back by dealer. It's complaint says it had to do with the climate control issues involving AC.

Really odd situation

i know of one car I would buy after lemon law, only because I know the history. Probably a crap shoot. There are good 350's out there for not a whole lot more. If you drive the 350, you're probably not going to want the M4

For just a couple grand more you could probably get one from an individual, talk to them about the history, etc. Your price is not that far off. I think a low mile 350 on a dealer’s lot is a crap shoot...was it someone who bought the wrong car? Did the owner realize she was burning oil and dumped it for you to find out?

In all cases I’d be depending on someone to shoot me straight, tougher to find nowadays than ya might think. That said, you need to go drive one.

To echo what the others have said. I was looking at an M2 when shopping for the Shelby. Much of what applies to an M4 is applicable to the M2 also. The sound qualityis something that is very difficult to get out of turbo engine on a street car. That one thing has much to do with the character of the car. The BMW's have great driving dynamics and for sure have higher quality interiors but when taken into total the GT350 simply is too hard to ignore. Lastly, unless you want that buy back car for a dedicated, purpose built track car, look elsewhere and save yourself from potential headaches.

When I was shopping, I was very close to buying an M4....it’s a really nice looking car but the M4 just lacked personality and well, life......... I get to drive 40 miles a day in my daily driven 350 and haven’t looked back at all.....smiles per gallon baby!

I would buy a 2018 GT Performance Package Level 2 way before I would buy a dealer bought back GT350. Even if I knew the history of it, it will always be branded as that. Just something I personally couldn't look past.

I have winter wheels/tires for my 17 GT PP. Doubt they would fit the 350.

Living in Cincinnati, this would be my daily. Even if we don't get snow, I'd have to consider the tires in the cold.

It's a tough sell. Especially when there is none around me to drive.

I am stuck hahaha

The GT350 surprises almost everyone that drives it. Its a beautiful mean piece of machinery. You can’t go wrong with a 350
