I was about to purchase a CPO 2018 GT Premium with every option except the shaker audio and only 5,000 miles, exactly what I wanted...then I noticed a JLT cold-air intake in the photos. It's my understanding that the JLT requires a tune. How did a large Ford dealership get it CPO?

I'm likely backing out of the deal, despite it having everything I want, because I want to make sure I'm not screwed it the engine blows. Plus I don't want a tune at this point.

Am I making the right call? A tune shouldn't have let it get a CPO warranty in the first place.

Doesn't the JLT intakes have the removable insert inside that reduces the airflow for non tuned applications?

I'm waiting for the dealership to confirm whether its been flashed and how it got CPO. It's an AutoNation dealership, so I'd hope they'd be more careful than a smaller chain. Then again, dealerships have bad reputations for a reason.

I have signed the paperwork but held off on mailing it back until I get a written response. I dont want to spend $44k and have no warranty.

Here's the intake at issue.

It probably still has the insert in it and hasn't been tuned.

Dealerships aren't strict on CPO. Ask me how I know. They just enjoy charging the extra money for a warranty they have no intention of standing behind anyway.

I passed on a camaro SS about 5 years ago for the same reason. Car was extremely low miles and had the remainder of the factory warranty. But the car also had a CAI and headers. I wanted the dealership to put in writing. That they would stand behind the car. They refused. I Moved on. Its shady to say the car is warranted in one sentance. But they wont put in writing that it had aftermarket parts. Already installed in the next sentence.

My dealer is selling a 2019 F150 with some aftermarket lift/wheel package...that takes the price to $69k.

Also included...Hypertech calibration and cat back exhaust.

Tell me how this is not going to "VOID" the majority of the vehicle warranty?

Cause it's "dealer" installed... yeah... EAD..

Again,,Moss/Mag carries more weight then most think.

Thanks for the feedback. I dont care about the CPO aspect, I just don't want a voided powertrain warranty. If there is no tune, I should be fine, I'd assume?

I'd throw the factory air box back on it anyways, I dont want a CAI. This car just had every option and the color I wanted. It's hard to find magnerides autos in general, nevermind in a specific color.

I told them I'd take it if they put it in writing as well. Explained that I'm an attorney and I dont trust anything that isnt in writing and oral agreements aren't generally enforceable over 1 year, and sent them something to sign.

Did you test drive it?

Make shure you drive it over small uneven areas at low speed,( 25-35)
Make sure the suspension does not make noises (thump). I regret my magneride:angry:

CPO is marketing fluff.

They can do a flash counter on the car. See what that says first. It might just be the non-tune JLT. If that is the case no biggie. Buy it.

I am pretty certain there is no non-tune version of the JLT like the Airaid, Roush, etc. If the car idles and drives properly then it is tuned.

Autonation and those other “big box” second hand dealerships (CarMax, Carvana, etc) does not follow the same CPO warranty/verification process or procedures that would be adhered to IF that car were at a FORD Dealership.

Hope it’s not one of the 2018 GT’s that’s been dumped due to a Ford Buy Back over the “tick”, or the owner got fed up and traded it in somewhere.

I'm waiting for a response regarding the flash counter. I'm starting to wonder whether I really need magneride or not. I live in the NYC area and our roads are shit.

Really wanted a V8, but considering looking elsewhere now for a fast and fun car under $50k with warranty.

If you are still really interested in the car, you have several resources that are still available to you. Check the vin with Ford for service history. They may not show you, But they can tell you verbally. Check car to see if traded with tuner. If not it may be possible for the selling dealer to contact prior owner and secure it and OEM intake. The next option is to have dealer covert back to factory tune. Last thing is to check car fax.....but note that sometimes Carfax is not always real time or reported. Any corrective work should be done by the dealer......NOT YOU. This should help maintain the 7 yr 100k warranty.

I don't blame you one bit for making sure JM. Even with a CPO one never knows what a Tech may not have checked while doing the inspection. And it's a good idea to get that in writing. You can never be too careful when dealing with dealerships. Good luck.
