this guy says hes on his 3rd 18 engine

There have been 2 guys with piston scuffing, 2 guys with full engine failures (one dropped a valve), at least 2-3 guys with high oil consumption, and about 50% of 2018 owners reporting a rattle from 2k-3k rpm. We don't know if it is or isn't an issue at this time. Ignoring it certainly isn't a great solution. If you have the rattle, it is best to at least take it in and have it reported to Ford. With enough complaints, they will be pushed into putting out an official statement or TSB. Right now, some dealers are saying it is normal and others are very concerned. No consistency, so I doubt Ford has communicated much.
FYI, if there is a fuel system issue in a specific load/speed situation, you will never see that in your drag strip times. When you floor it, the system is using full pressure and passing it through the direct injectors. There is a possibility that the HP pump is working up to full pressure around 2k rpm, yet fluid isn't being passed through quickly to the direct injectors yet under partial load. This can cause cavitation inside the pump.

50% of all 18's, where did you get that number? from the ford site? or just a number you liked that you thought of?

Dunno if this helps avoid excess piston float on the rings (sloppy slap piston rocking in bore).
My breakin:
Keep engine between 3-5 rpm during first 200 miles up to 2/3 throttle.
3-6 rpm occasional full throttle 200-400
4-7 rpm occasional full throttle 400-500
3-7.5 rpm 500+ Increasing to 4+ sec WOT
600+ miles: repeated 4+ sec WOT on track to CHT 225.
Prolly do compression test soon.
Then maybe wait till 800 to go sustained track use till CHT 245. Figure if ring gap too low, itll blow a ring land at that point.
Then compression test after track weekends from there on.

I was also a naysayer a couple months ago. I thought it was just an unlucky few. Then I heard the rattle one morning.

I have the bbq tick and the rattle, at the time of the poll it i posted yes did not take it to the dealer yet. I have, they documented it. said the tick is the normal coyote tick thats been around since gen 1 coyotes, the rattle is not "norma'" but didnt look into it further waiting for ford to figure out the cause and issue. It documented, i came home put on my MGW, headers, xpipe and tune.. like others have said, they took out 8lbs of cylinder liners, it may be "common" to hear the rattle, many f150's have it. others around here do also. I have a 60k warranty so im not worried ill drive it till it goes because worrying about it isnt going to fix it nor let me enjoy it. If it goes it goes, ill have a new car in 3-4 years and this will still only have 20-30k miles since its not a DD.

They sell 7k Mustangs a month, but not GTs.
With 120 poll results (out of a population of 40k or half of all Mustangs sold in the last year), you get a 9% margin of error with 95% confidence level. That's significant. Moving to 99% confidence level, we only move to 12% margin of error. Thus, the results say, with fairly decent confidence, that rattle noise is quite common in 2018 GTs.

Are you claiming that people only go to that section because they are biased toward the car having issues? Or do you think people purposely lie about their cars having noises? How would one even have a completely unbiased poll for something that happened in a specific range and operational condition? Basically, if you don't know how to look for it, you might not know you have it. I found the thread in the Issues section by chance, and was originally a No vote. I was actually looking for info on any possible recalls, since there are quite a few new parts.
Even if there is some sample bias, the sample size is significant. More people having the noise would be better support for those claiming that it is normal. If there were actually 1000 2018 GT owners on the forum, and only 61 of those had a rattle noise, It would be more support for the group saying the noise isn't normal. There were less than 300 votes in the 2018 GT order poll. More sample size is always better, but that doesn't mean we disregard the data we have.

I get that people want to be defensive, as most of us love Mustangs. I just think we may be too quick to blow off an unknown noise without more information on the cause. I am certainly not saying 3rd engine dude in the video is proof that Ford sucks. It doesn't sound like he even experienced the same issue as most. I have said it before, I am certainly not panicking. I am just backing off the mod game until I know more. If something comes out that could point to possible failure, I don't want to walk in the dealership with full bolt-ons.

Sample size is sufficient. As stated before, it is statistically significant. I work in the auto industry. Even 50 similar warranty related complaints out of 40k cars would throw up major red flags. And yes, Ford is one of our customers.

Why would I ever be defensive? I honestly don't care about the issue I just hate bad statistics.
