Metal Toggle Switches by 5spurs?

Yeah...sounds like they are still paying off the loan on their CNC machine. $80? lawl.

You would be surprised how much CNC machined parts actually cost. The largest cost is accrued due to the setup time for the machine. The reason why you see some parts cheap is because they ran very large batches and then stored those parts for a later date. If you have a small company though that really isn't feasible.

What about toggles that go both up and down?

This is not possible because the printed circuit board would have to be redone so it had an additional contact to send the signal to the FCIM to turn off the selected function.

The point is, if people are willing to spend around $40 for a PLASTIC start button and upwards of $300 for an aftermarket cold air intake (which on these cars show negligible performance increases without a tune)...then there is probably a market for those who want to buy an all billet aluminum toggle switches and start buttons. To each his/her own...

5spurs has asked me to post this thread to the forums just to feel things out for them...see if there is a market for this product...and if they should go into production with it.

Personally, I would LOVE LOVE LOVE to have these in the car...cost be dammed...

I don't see any issue with these mods - my post earlier was to say I really like the factory switches.

This is coming from someone with a 20k hifi system.

If it is what makes you happy that counts. A retro style switch would be pretty damn cool.

There are mods that are significantly worse.

Thanks yeah I just wanted to convey that I fully understand the desire. My stereo has: 1950s glass tubes, mahogany, stainless steel - handmade components. It is very satisfying.

Yes it is expensive...but SO WORTH EVERY SINGLE PENNY. After installing this button...the best way to describe how I feel when I get into and start the car is through this youtube video


I can only imagine how delighted I will be in putting in the metal toggle switches...

I've often wondered if metal paddle shifters were possible. Not the stick on but a full replacement. I'd give up the back-lighting.

My guess would be they are not able to be done because of the possibility of ground out to the circuit board inside the paddle shifter housing.

I really hate the factory toggle switches. I'm up for a whole new panel there.

They just don't have a good feel. They feel more like a toy.

I had a C-Class before and I hated the toggle switches in the Benz too but they felt super nice to use at least.

If they can make them work in reverse I'd pay serious money.

I am certainly one for high quality built products, and they certainly are, but man.

This is an ultra high quality item - you are buying into the expertise and craftsmanship of Aerospace engineers in UK with Formula 1 backgrounds.

It's $80 for quality consistent with Mclaren, Bentley or similar. Hope this puts the price into perspective.

What would be the benefit of having the switches toggle in the reverse?

If you go too far as you switch through the modes, you can't toggle back down to the mode you just missed. You have to "do a lap" to get back to your desired mode.

This is not something you can fix, as it would require a software upgrade. However, if your switches scrolled through the menu when activated both up and down that'd be ace. Personally, I'd prefer to toggle down to select a mode.

That is the upper end of the price range...in my e-mail discussions with [MENTION=35589]5spurs[/MENTION], the lower end may be around $60 per switch (total of $240)...again this is expensive...but if the superb quality and craftsmanship of the start button are to be had...then one must pay a price...

Again...this may not be everyone's cup of tea and yes I can imagine that people are going to be turned off by the potential price...but others may want to do this.
