Ignorance is bliss? Not with a 40k+ performance vehicle.
So ... what are you able to do with a $ 40,000.00 + Performance vehicle ?:clap2::thumbsup::thumbsup::clap2::clap2::eyebulge::eyebulge:

John....man there are no words, that is just a viscous kick in the balls. Ford should be jumping through hoops to make it right, but I know some folks have had bad experiences. Until you get this resolved maybe it’s best to keep any off-highway driving vids out of sight.

As far as pure conjecture goes, the thing that usually grenades engines is preignition or hydraulic lock, which leads me to think maybe there was a problem with one of injectors on that cylinder, like it got hung open and created a good environment for a preignition event or possibly sprayed enough fuel to fill the chamber and hydro lock it, breaking the piston and/or rod. The former is probably more likely than the latter.

Whatever the case, best of luck in getting it sorted out.

Hey guys, sorry for no reply but have been on vacation and not driving the car....

So the short of my experience at the dealer was that they don't think my particular engine sound is anything to worry about. Several other cars on the lot (not all) did the same thing after a cold start. To me that would indicate a problem but what do I know.

I was honestly tired of not having my car for over 2 weeks so I took it back. I had them fixing several other interior panel fitment issues that they had to order parts for as well. The service manager and I had a discussion about the engine sound and told him I'd be back if I noticed any change. My case is documented now so if anything happens in the future it will be on them.

As far as the OP goes that really sucks. I hope they get you sorted out sooner than later. As much as I love the car, knowing it could be a ticking time bomb is disappointing.

Quick update for those that asked, the build date for my car's engine was 29 March 2018:

I can't imagine your frustration. We sent back three 2018 5.0s Monday for failure analysis. One from an F-150 that had a valve in the oil pan when towed in, and two from a Mustang with less than 200 miles (the first one shattered a piston, its replacement had a rod knock on start up). Granted it's a tiny number in the grand scheme of how many are produced, but it's still worrying to think about how many we've seen in the last few months.

Update from Ford today. The block is wasted so they are going to ship a long block out to my local dealer within the next week. They are going to expedite the repairs and add in an extended bumper to bumper warranty (Ford's Premium Care). Kudos to Ford and the local dealer for jumping on the problem as quick as they have. Hopefully the replacement motor will be a better one.

Do you or your dealership expect to hear from Ford about the cause of the failure?

Other than the two pieces of engine block and a torched piston ring, no, not yet. I spoke with the service advisor and he said they had not pulled the motor yet. If I had to guess, that will probably happen closer to the time that the new engine arrives.

I think this happened to a YouTuber a month or so back while he in the middle of his Mustang review vlog.
