GT350 AIRBOX HEAT SHIELD

Has anyone made a heat shield for the top of the air box to help seal the filter from under hood hot air a bit better? I have one on my 2015 GT - 5.0 - I don't have the hood insulator on my car, and I have noticed that my IAT is really high compared to a sealed box - now, part of this may be that I need to install the snorkel tube that runs to the grill - this will happen in the next couple days - maybe that'll make a difference - but I was thinking, cut out a piece of plexi glass - maybe - and set it on top of the filter to seal it off....anybody experiment with this stuff on the stock GT350 air box?

Maybe I misunderstand your idea... Having said that the 'airbox' is totally sealed by the hood using the built in rubber/foam (3 sides/1 side)

Haven’t seen a GT350 without the rubber seals built into the airbox. In fact, many have concern that the seals are rubbing through the paint on the underside of the hood.

This picture shows the foam ‘side’ on the right. All the other ‘sides’ are rubber. As stated above the seal to the hood is so tight (coupled with voodoo vibration prone behavior) it actually likes to rub the paint off.

The high intake temps are not from hot air entering the filter it’s the temp sensor and air mass sensor housing heating up from the exhaust heat. Notice how when the car is moving the temps really drop?

Thanks for the picture - that helps a ton, I will add the additional foam piece on the side, along with the tube running into the grill, that should help - what I was originally talking about, was cutting out a piece of plexiglass to sit just above the filter inside the top of the airbox - maybe that would help more, maybe it's unnecessary.

And I would expect the positive pressure coming into the induction system would be pushing out any ambient air outside of the box as well.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it. Engineers are competent people, trust their decision making before you bork something up.

Not needed on the 350 since the hood sits lower and mates well with the rubber seal. On a Mustang the hood sits a lot higher and probably will not make contact with the rubber seal.

Haven’t seen a GT350 without the rubber seals built into the airbox. In fact, many have concern that the seals are rubbing through the paint on the underside of the hood.

I had not really considered this until I started to see signs of abrasion in the contact areas. Immediately applied vinyl tape along the contact points so paint would not wear through to metal.

Cold air is ducted from the DS of the front grill into that filter assembly. You do not need to cover the top nor create a duct.

There is an existent duct from the RH side or drivers side if you will, of the grill opening. It is part of the housing.

So I ordered a GT350 CAI from Levittown Ford and mine did not come with the foam piece you see in the photo. I had to order it separately. Levittown has it for $13.88. It is called a "Element Assembly-Air Filter" part no. FR3Z-9601-D.

Could you elaborate more on why you're asking in regards to the GT350 air box? Both the hood and air box for the GT350 are of a different design from the Mustang GT and made to seal together as the others noted.

I would imagine he's asking because the GT350 CAI is a common upgrade for the GT and it's even sold by Ford Performance in their staged upgrade kits.
