Well they do admit that it was not the dream matchup with the PP2, because Ford could not supply one at the time of the test. They said they will do the comparison again "soon" when the PP2 becomes available to the media.

You really can't blame MT. They were told 6 months before the PP2 will be available for magazine tests, so they went with what they had. It was either that, or no comparison at all, since Chevy supplied a 1SS 1LE.

They easily could have delayed the comparison.

I think hes referring to the 1LE having better rebates/discounts right now. I can get an '18 1LE for 41-42K.

True, but that's always a moving target isn't it? Just wanted to make the point that the 1LE is still a little more expensive. The 1LE package is $7K this year.

The Ford build and price doesn't have the PP2, but USAA does and a GT+PP2 MSRP comes in $500 under the 1LE (with an average paid in my area of just under $42K). Yea, I know it doesn't come with coolers or a HUD or data recorder. Just pointing out the Camaro isn't cheaper, it's virtually identical pricing with the only real difference is how good of a deal you can get.

I don't get too bent out of shape about comparisons such as this. I like both cars, I just can't see out of the Camaro, so the Mustang is a no brainer for me.

Ford had the option to send one, but they didn’t as it wasn’t out yet. And from the release, we all expected spring time when they were to be at dealers. We are all surprised that they are out now as no one expected it. But Ford could of easily sent one, but why they didn’t is a answer they only know.:shrug:

I am willing to bet Ford would like to sell some PP2 cars before they let a magazine potentially rip it apart.

I have no problem seeing the Camaro "being in another league" for balance and handling, and I wish Ford could do the same.

Not going to go burn my car, I love it and hopefully when the time comes there will be a newer mustang that can dance like that. No problems with my basic ass one. Actually I wish it had the adjustable exhaust and power recline...those are more important to me realistically. I am not paying upwards of 50 grand for this car

Motor Trend is of course aiming to get high views. Right now the 18 is a hot topic, so they just get the best performance package Ford offers and compared it to the performance package Chevy has. It's not MTs fault that PP2 is starting late. MT also says multiple times in their video and in the article that they will do another head2head once the PP2 is available to them.

I actually was very interested how much the magnetic ride and higher power/torque will do. So don't blame MT that it's barely an improvement to the 15 GT PP if you compare the lap times and they think the handling is not as good as the GT350R (even though according to Ford MR will be directly from the GT350R, so my hopes were high). After their review I would actually concider not buying the MR and put my money into an aftermarket solution.

So switching from 15 to 18 might not be the big improvement Ford claims

The biggest thing why the 1LE was MotorTrends favorite in the comparison is the handling. More horsepower and the GT350 intake in the Bullitt should not make any big difference for lap times.

The test was done in November, first PP2 were seen at beginning of Jan at dealers. Ford could of easily had a PP2 there. They were testing GT350 in Sep of 2015 before they hit dealers in November, and that was a whole new car, this just has add-on’s.:cheers:

If the 1le really did beat the pp1 buy over 3 seconds then theirs no way a pp2 iis going to make up that kind of ground.Their is no way that their is 3 second difference between.the pp1 and pp2,for guys that understand just how much faster 3 seconds is!!!
