Anyone tuned on a 91 octane tune?

Okay, yes that sounds like a dumb question since the 350 is rated for 526 on 93 octane BUT...the tunes do exist from VMP and there are California peeps on here too. I travel back and forth between 93 and 91 areas. So, anyone on one or have talked to a tuner about if there is anything to be had on a 91 tune?

I think your best bet would be a Lund Flex tune. That way you can use whatever octane (91 or better) you want.

Something to look into, thanks. I also got a response back from VMP, they said I can still expect high 20's wheel HP gains from a 91 tune. Their 93 tunes have been revised and are firing out nearly high 30's with no changes to the intake. That is friggin' potent. Their E85 tune on a stock car is putting out 510 - 520 :lol:

They will give you a hardcoded E85 tune or a hardcoded gas tune which has 3 octane levels. You can choose from 87 up to 100 octane. Anything above 100 is considered a race tune and costs additional money.

I would love to tune for more hp, but there have been so many issues with engine failure, I'd hate to give ford a reason to void my warranty. That said I have a little over 20k miles on the car and no issues. Should I just assume I have a good one and tune away???

I'm running a Lund Flex tune now with the Ngauge. great tune and I have had no issues. I will run e85, then switch back to 93 to "clean up". I have good power on both tunes.

I believe this was done with a mixture, or I could be wrong. I was not at the dyno session, but I know they wanted to get e85 in my car when they dyno'ed. When I received my car I was at half on the tank. I think they may have drained what 93 I had then added the e85. Or they may had mixed it. Either way I was happy with the results lol.

I know now that when I am fully fill on e85 (a few fill up's) my ethanol % will read at 92% according to the Ngauge. As of now I am at 87.5% because I am coming off a tank of 93. I remember it read slightly less the day I picked up the car.

I had JR check my logs again after the session and he was quite happy with what he saw. ( I go out to ST rd 9 late and open her up.) He said I had no issues, the knocks were very happy, and he felt I should be making great power. I would say I have zero complaints.

Does the tune require the nguage? If not what is the purpose of the gauge? Also was anything required for the E85 tune? any hardware changes? Sorry for all the questions. Last I used a tune was with sct handheld and never tried e85 tune.

No worries Ol Boy. I to was on a SCT tune handheld in my 11 Shelby.

As for the Ngauge requirement I would believe it is not a requirement, as you do have a choice for the SCT handheld. The Ngauge though does a plethora options. The gauge read outs for example are quite useful. Also you can do live data log tuning directly from the Ngauge. You then can extract that and send it straight to your tuner. No more laptops in the passenger seat.

For our cars there is nothing else required for the tune. Our fuel systems will run it as is. Interesting fact I found about the 350 was that without a tune the system will adjust timing to the type of fuel.

Yeah I believe you can actually put 87 in it and the knock sensors are good enough to compensate. But why would you do that??? :lol:
