So i pulled the R out for a drive on Sunday and found this in the tire!

Thoughts on whether i should plug and play or just replace? Only have 1100 miles on the tires.

TIA.

Plugs are never meant to be a permanent fix. That said, I've never had a problem with any plugged repairs as long as it was done right the first time.

However, if you plan to track the car, then patch or replace.

how deep is the screw? It probably goes through by the looks of it. A patch is actually approved by Michelin, but if it were me I wouldn't track the tire. Road hazard warranty will cover a patch, a good tech will be able to massage the problem to get you a new tire.

My tire guys won’t plug any tire, patch if possible or replace.

Add some more screws at even spacing and you have a snow tire. I'd probably still drive on the road with a patch but wouldn't track them.

I have had dozens of tires plugged with out issue (never a track tire). I assume a patch involves unmounting and remounting a tire?

I have had a GT350 tire plugged but I do know remember if it was my track wheels. I think it was the stock PS2.

Appreciate the responses. Not sure how far it goes thru yet but I suspect i will just order a new tire, patch this one and keep for spare.

And I almost thought about buying a replacement set on that deal from Walmart but passed and with my given luck, this seems appropriate for me.

I would spray it with some soapy water and see if any air is leaking around it. If not, I would try removing it and checking for leaks again. It may be a short screw that didn't penetrate that far and no real damage done. If it is leaking then pull it and have it patched or buy a new one if you feel it's necessary. If I replaced every tire that I found a short screw in I would be buying them all the time. Dang builders and carpenters can't seem to keep their stuff secured in their pick ups and vans.

its def leaking but a slow leak at that so a patch is necessary. And completely agree about the contractors, bunch of slackers!

I've seen guys run plug patch fixes on the race track before. Since a plug patch vulcanizes, you'll be fine.
Yep. Plug and play. Good to go! Never had a problem. Tire guys want to sell a tire, understandably.

I've run patched tires on track without issue. I have even run a plugged street tire on the track, but I was young and stupid and don't recommend that. If using it for street spare, just plug it. Cheap and effective. If putting it back into service, patch it and trust it.

Plug and patch. I’ve done this on slicks, street tires and off-road tires. Not one issue ever.

If the tire has not been driven on that has gone flat or lost a lot of air it will be fine to patch it as long as its not in side of the tire or edge of the tread. Technically a tire that has been repaired patched will loose 1 speed rating.

If a tire that has gone flat and been driven on then the side walls will be damaged basically from being pinched by the weight of the car and definitely needs replacement.
