Question to the GT350 Owners? But what percentage of GT350s ever make it to a road course. If you had to guess?

If you base it on me, zero. I had every intention of tracking the car but never have. When walking around C&C talking to the 7-10 other GT 350 Owner’s I would see, about 1/3 to 1/2 say they track their cars. So the C&C crowd is likely a bit more of a true car crowd. So a overall average I would guess would be less than the C&C crowd. 10% overall. Maybe?

There are a lot of GT 350 rolling around HTown.

The funnier comments are from people with a zillion mods saying "oh now I can beat a GT350" um......they make mods for GT350 too ?

I can’t imagine a knowledgeable GT350 owner worrying about racing a GT of any variety. That’s just not the point. If the goal was to beat a GT then why not just get a used GT500.. or a Hellcat.. or a z06.. or a modded focus RS... I digress.

There are likely a lot of people that got MSRP or close to MSRP deals on GT350s and thought they could make a quick buck... or they bought them and didn’t really think about long term ownership for the financial and or practical reasons noted above.

I have 9500mi on my R and I’ve had it 6 months. It’s been to the track, it’ll be back.

However racing other mustangs or whether or not my car would beat another mustang isn’t a thought for me outside of reading posts on this forum. Never would’ve even considered a mustang if not for the R... hell didn’t even consider the non R

I would bet people bought them that couldn't really afford them.

For me, I don't intend to race it, either on a track or dragstrip. Might try just for fun tho. Biggest advantage over a GT is simple - GTs are a (relative) dime a dozen. Ford sells how many GT mustangs/year - 50K? They only sell 6-7000 GT350s.

If you didn't buy the R, you're not getting the full experience. The engine alone won't save you. I can’t believe one year ago people were paying 75-80k for a regular gt350

I like to disassemble things.
The GT350 is a heck of a track car. Those that argue to the contrary don't own one or never took the opportunity to track one.

The boomer generation were the ones paying 15-20 ADM becouse “Collector” now they trying to unloading it. I’ll say don’t buy one yet just wait 1 year and you be able to find a gt350 in mint condition for 40k
Mint condition.... could be very difficult to find. Most of these GT are abuses

Got mine for MSRP last March so not one of the ones who way over paid for a Non-R. The percentage who bought them who cannot afford it is likely no higher than any other car. People are always buying more expensive (insert whatever here, house, car, boat, RV, etc) than they can afford. Just because it costs more than a Mustang GT does not mean more people spend more than what they can afford on it compared to other cars. It’s all relative. I remember when first graduating college and buying my first new car, $300 a month note was huge. So was my $2,000 a month net pay. My how things have changed.

Like I wrote earlier, the cost for me is my monthly slush fund. Can I afford the car, absolutely. Is it worth it considering I have a paid for 4x4 truck daily driver and I have a company take home car. $1,300 a month for a weekend driver that I have not tracked, it’s becoming not worth it for me.

The issue with the GT350 is that a huge percentage of Mustang fans want power. Its always been about going faster and faster. Ford released a 660 HP GT500 in 13/14 then the GT350 came along and with the tag of it being a "track car", Not a straight line car. Then Chevy comes out with the ZL1 and ZL1 1LE and they both destroy the GT350R on the track and they are fast as hell in a straight line. Those cars kind of took the wind out of the GT350's sails. $60k for a 520HP low torque GT350 or $60k for a 650 HP ZL1 that is just a flat out better performing car?

Ford kind of got backed into the corner here and i hope the new GT500 delivers because its what we need right now. There is a gaping hole in the Mustang line up at the moment.

I think the demographic that bought into the gt350 because it was the IT track car under $100k is probably the same demographic that would jump to a ZL1 1LE based on stats.

I haven’t driven the Camaro, no interest in any GM product, so I can’t speak from experience with that platform.. but when trusted reviewers drive the 1LE, the overall sentiment has been that is a helluva car, faster than some super cars let alone a gt350, but they’d rather have an R because - while it’s not faster it’s overall a better driving experience.

IMHO - it speaks volumes when a slower car is consistently desired by trusted reviewers over the hands down faster alternative.

I haven’t driven a non R so I wouldn’t know, but your statement is pretty much how I approached my decision. Randy Pobst basically had same sentiment.

That said - I have no delusion that I could flex even a Miata to its fullest potential, so not like I think I need an R etc.
