Point well taken but it all depends as to when Ford announces the release of the GT500 and if it is announced during the Detroit Auto Show in January I certainly agree with your comments.That will most likely stand true if Ford does not announce a new kid on the block, the GT500. If it does, interest in the R will drop ... I know mine will.
Having said that I would suggest that the GT350 crowd is a somewhat different crowd than the GT500 crowd based on a couple of reasons.
One reason being the unique and cool FPC engine along and the other being the NA versus FI engines.
Each to their own but personally I will have no interest in the new GT500 no matter how fast it is or how much improved the suspension is.
I really believe the GT350/GT350R's will continue to have a strong following for quite a few years to come.
