It's all about expanding the market segment without alienating the main customer base. GM listened too much to it's 5th gen audience while they should have been trying to find out why people liked about it's competition. How can you make any blue collar sports car in today's day and age that doesn't fit a set of f'ing golf clubs or luggage larger than a carry on.
I think the new Camaro is great because it got me to look at the Mustangs. The last Ford I purchased was a new '87 Mustang GT convertible and I have bought a lot of new GM cars since that time including 4 Firebirds and 4 Corvettes. It only took about 5 minutes with the Camaro to get me into the Ford showroom. I had the bar set pretty low for the Camaro since I am a big fan of the LS/LT engines but i walked out of the showroom thinking what where they thinking when they designed the new Camaro. The ergonomics, the visibility, trunk space, rear seat room, etc.

I am quite happy to be expanding the Mustang customer base and ordering a new GT convertible if and when they every get the ordering guide published!

I think the key to the Challenger's success is there's always something new. New trims seem to come every 6-12 months, new colors every year, several high performance versions, now they just announced the widebody hellcat last week. It doesn't matter that the platform is ancient because they keep giving people reasons to trade up or bring in new customers with great marketing like Fast 8. This is one thing I find annoying about the S550, there's been really nothing new for the past 3 years aside from 1 or 2 color changes. They have strong sales still so Ford doesn't care, but it's been 3 years and we're still waiting for the Cobra with no end in sight.

Look at the trend graph from 09-Present.

I'm not a hater on any brand. But if you're Chevy, the overall steady decline of Camaro sales has to be alarming.

And if you believe what you read, it appears as if the long fly ball over the left field fence (1LE), may be nothing more than a dry heave.

I still wouldn't buy one. I like how they look, but buying a Dodge seems like a waste of money. I've never met anyone who bought another Dodge after the first one. They all had a never ending stream of problems after the first year. Heck the funniest thing someone told me about the Viper was "it was the best car I've ever owned... for the 6 months of the year it wasn't in the shop".

"No, Mustang generally outsells Camaro. Nothing new there. Mustang sales are down 38% compared to only 6% for Camaro. I think that is the number that tells the story."

Real Einsteins over there.

It's what happens when you market the 6th gen toward what 5th gen owners wanted and not what everyone else wanted. I do think GM is making money off them still but being dead last in sales has to hurt.

I'm half temped to get a scat pack, there's quite a few around where I live and I'm always checking them out when I see one.

Has anybody taken notice that GM is mostly owned by China?
This alone would turn me off of the Camaro.

You couldn't be any more wrong. I doubt many people are trading up their challengers for the same v8. Dodge is great at marketing ie demon and hellcat and rely on the emotion for people to buy a new challenger. Besides, the refresh will make the mustang new again anyways and if the refresh were any sooner, it would be pointless. Updating the s197 to s550 is such a drastic physical change that does not warrant needing an update within a few years.

Holy crap, Challenger came out on top last month.

FCA is doing their big incentives on Chally and Charger. Like $3500 cash on most of them.

I have only gone there once or twice, and was curious how these sales figures were being handled, and I have to say it was amusing. I'd read here what the clichéd responses were, but I thought it had moved past those over there and that now it was more of just a joke. Nope, they really say things like fleet sales, makes the car more special, etc. Cracked me up.

I have no hate of the Camaro, and I'd actually prefer to like it - it would be nice to have a choice of cars I like, but the Camaro, while a great performer, just does nothing for me from the looks and interior aspect, so I just can't see myself getting one.

The '18 refresh, purely from an aesthetics view, is a total dud.

And I wonder what's up with the 35+ percent decline in sales. It's summatime.

Product sales typically drop after the 24th month and continues until the product flatlines at 40. Changes need to be made in 24-40 month intervals.

As for the '18 vs. '15, it's the same as the '68 vs. '65. The '18 looks like a performance sports car now. The last bit of remaining S197 design is nearly gone.

The 2018 is the best looking Mustang to date. I can't wait to see the GT350 and GT500.
