Recalling a few older Porsches that I owned, one of the quick and easy upgrades was to swap out the throttle cam.
The factory cam is connected directly to the TB butterfly, and is cable driven from the pedal. In its factory form it was an eccentric cam Thad did not open the throttle in a linear fashion, but rather in a slower opening at lighter and mid throttle.
The upgraded cam was fully round and gave a 100% linear response from the pedal.
No more power, but a perceived increase at any given throttle opening.

Pedal max does the same, but in an electronic and adjustable form.

Lol. .. It's installed and got damned what a difference!! ..its gives me the upper rpm range so quick now. Much quicker than I could ever do by "pushing the pedal faster" haha. Only wish I bought one sooner. Warhead..Norm. .and other members thanks for your input and support. WOW!

A little pricey but quite worth the money. It will bring smiles if your gt is stock and probably smiles with modded cars too. I finally got mine installed a few days ago. Have had it for a few weeks but dreaded getting myself up under the dash with such a deep door sill. Here's a tip. If you have to install one of these devices and have some rims in boxes it sure makes for a comfortable platform to lay on get to under the dash lol. See pic

Theres a lot of people skeptical about these throttle controllers. Yet out of 56 reviews of the PedalMax on AM's website, 54 have rated either 4/5 or 5/5. One of the bad reviews was a defective unit. The other bad review was from an EB owner saying he noticed the instant response but it wasnt what he expected.

I found it easier to remove the 3 bolts holding the gas pedal to the floor. Then I could reach the plug without resorting to be a contortionist!:lol:

54/56 strongly positive reviews is hardly unexpected.

Those who are skeptical to begin with aren't going to be the "early adopters". And the early adopters are far more likely to praise a product for doing what it claims to do than downgrade it for being "too good" at doing it.


As a side note here, I have my doubts about how many people think in terms of very small throttle adjustments while cornering "on some throttle". Where too much of a good thing really can be too much.

I think he's like most of us. It doesn't increase performance and decreases a users ability to modulate throttle. It's snake oil. It's going to make your car feel faster by reducing modulation.

Many of us prefer to push down farther on our right foot...and are able to distinguish the difference between perception and reality.

I won't bash the product, as it obviously has a market and sells. Having drive cars with an on/off switch for a throttle...I prefer to err on the side of a little extra modulation.

They were 944s, weren't they. I never got around to doing it on mine before I sold it, but that car was the first that came to mind when you mentioned swapping out the throttle cam.:cheers:

I think as with some people, they choose this over a tune because it won’t void warranty and less expensive. I too was pretty skeptical before buying this but read the reviews and made me pull the trigger. I always felt like my car had to think before going which I hated because my old cars with the cable system instantly responded as soon as I hit the pedal. Even flooring it I still experienced some lag before going. Once I got the commander it was instant response, on the highest setting it’s a pretty violent takeoff, scary at times.It doesn’t make my car any faster it just responds faster which is good enough for me.

What you're feeling is a change in lag, it's a decrease in modulation. In the past, manufacturers placed cams on cable driven throttle bodies to increase modulation and provide a better "feel" without having an on/off switch. That is all now built into the throttle mapping. Some like it, some don't....that's just the way it goes. Those of us that purchased premium models have the ability to change it, so I can't fault those who wish to do the same.

It really is so much a personal preference. Roadracing I decreased the modulation. 2 stroke motocross I increased modulation. If racing my car I would leave the pedalmax off but for the street without a tune I really like it. Since I never really drive full throttle and with boots on for work I like the effortless extra power at the same pedal position.
