Cause dear Lord it must be the luckiest day ever for me!

Started off my morning at 8am and decided to take the stang to work. Very light traffic, only about 5 miles into my commute when I see a C5z stalking me. As fate would have it we catch the light. He's revving immediately and I decided this would be a great time to test out my brand new nitto nt05r.

Light changes and I immediately put several lengths on him and I kept pulling. Shut down around 90mph. We get the next light and he wants another go...round 2 same results. He then passes me and waves...cool guy.

Next thing you know I see the last thing on earth ANY sports car guy wants to see after a drag race...Cherries on directly behind me!!!!!

As my stomach and heart join forces I realize there is not 1 cop behind me but 2!!!! The guy in the vette pulls down a side street and guns it. The 1st cop passes me and goes after him. I pull down the same side street and immediately pull over. I get my wifes number ready to dial on my phone, anticipating I will be arrested and towed in just a few moments.

The cop walks up slowly with his hand on his gun, I immediately put both my hands on the door sill where he can see them. I have disabled veteran plates and in Illinois it also states on your plates whether your a concealed carry holder, which I am. I was not carrying at the time though. Anyways, I would assume this is what made him nervous, plus the drag racing and the vette trying to run...lol.

Anyways, he walks up and I immediately fess up and tell him how stupid that was and I am sorry and I deserve whatever he thinks bla bla...I was basically rambling to save my ass. He then asks me what branch of service I was in...I told him honorably discharged service connected disabled USMC vet. He then tells me "thank you for your service, here's what is gonna happen, I am going to make sure you have no warrants, verify your insurance and if it's all clear I will write you a warning..." It was as if I was dreaming, did he just say I would only get a warning!

"Just a few minutes and I will have you on your way" I tell him I am sorry again and he says "listen man I get it, I got a big ford diesel and I get all kinds of chevy and dodge guys who want to race me from the lights, just don't do it, it's not worth it!" "By the way, I enjoyed watching a mustang beat a vette!"

He then asked if I knew the guy in the vette, which I didn't. I would assume he got away, but i'm fairly certain they had our plates BEFORE the cherries turned on.

WTF!!!! Anyways, I am still in shock over here and wanted to share my story. Be safe and smart everyone! I learned a lesson today that could have cost me my license at the bare minimum!

Something similar happened to me a while back. Wasn't really racing the car next to me at a light on an interstate feeder road. But he was kinda messing with me. When the light changed we were both turning left and I wound out first and second pretty good and got into third a bit.

Local LE was somewhere behind me but I swear I don't where. Anyway, lights come on and pull into my subdivision and pull up next to the communal mailboxes. Officer comes up and I'm doing the right protocol - engine off, window down, hands on the steering wheel. He asks me if there's a reason I was going so fast and I say no, officer. I was just playing with the car a bit and shouldn't have been.

He asks for my insurance and I tell I have a concealed license and my pistol is in the glove box. He says sit tight. Runs me for warrants and I'm sure to look at my record re tickets which is clean for the last 6 to 7 years. He comes back and gives me a warning. I told him I appreciate it, checked my mail, and headed to the house. He was super cool.

If youre not being a doucheface to the cop theyll sometimes let you go. Got pulled over for reckless driving on the hwy in my speed3 a few years ago, he let me off because i was being apologetic and realized my mistake.

The only lottery you won was not killing yourself or someone else.
Your military service and service-connected disability are what saved your ass.
I did my time too as an Air Force nurse '94-02 and have my veteran plate...blah, blah, blah.

You made a very poor decision.
An equally bad decision, under hostile fire for example, may not have turned out so well.

Please be safe out there people and do not street race.

Disabled Vet and driving a Mustang while getting pulled by a Ford guy. Yea, don't waste your time on the lottery. It was the planets all aligned correctly!
And yes, thank for your service!

Just yesterday I was driving in to work at 6:50am. I was cruising down I-20 with the needle dead on 70 in a 60. Granted, I think it reads a few MPH fast. But I take note than no one is tailgating me, passing me or no one in front of me. Hmmm, a pleasant drive it! 400-500 yards further I notice the State Trooper behind me to my right. Screw it, held my speed and kept heading to work.
Next exit, he took it to get on I-77.
All hell broke loose then! It looked like the pace car pulled into the pit row at Indy. I stuck to 70 and I was getting passed like I had pulled to the side and stopped.

Good story. I can think of 3 times in my life similar circumstances. Actually 4. Got away on all and I have no idea how.

Its called .....

Situational Awareness. Heck we all make mistakes in life. I made quite a number
in my life. The important thing to remember is to not repeat them. Live & Learn.
I totaled my 1969 Ford Mustang Mach 1 at the age of 16 drag racing - Thank God no one was seriously hurt. Three car accident and everyone walked away from it. Muscle cars are great, but Flex the muscles at a race track with proper safety equipment to limit the damage to auto & humans. ;)

My first car was a new yellow Mach I. My sister-in-law (South Carolina) warned me about driving through Georgia. On my way to visit I drove through Georgia. Nice morning coming down a long mountain grade, not watching the speed. Georgia Highway Patrol car turns on his lights. I slow down and pull over. The officer looks like he just got off working The Dukes of Hazard. He asks me some questions while sweat is pouring down my back.
He hands me a Warning Ticket...says watch your speed...nice looking car. My relatives couldn't believe it...said it was the first Georgia warning ticket they ever saw.
