Cause dear Lord it must be the luckiest day ever for me!
Started off my morning at 8am and decided to take the stang to work. Very light traffic, only about 5 miles into my commute when I see a C5z stalking me. As fate would have it we catch the light. He's revving immediately and I decided this would be a great time to test out my brand new nitto nt05r.
Light changes and I immediately put several lengths on him and I kept pulling. Shut down around 90mph. We get the next light and he wants another go...round 2 same results. He then passes me and waves...cool guy.
Next thing you know I see the last thing on earth ANY sports car guy wants to see after a drag race...Cherries on directly behind me!!!!!
As my stomach and heart join forces I realize there is not 1 cop behind me but 2!!!! The guy in the vette pulls down a side street and guns it. The 1st cop passes me and goes after him. I pull down the same side street and immediately pull over. I get my wifes number ready to dial on my phone, anticipating I will be arrested and towed in just a few moments.
The cop walks up slowly with his hand on his gun, I immediately put both my hands on the door sill where he can see them. I have disabled veteran plates and in Illinois it also states on your plates whether your a concealed carry holder, which I am. I was not carrying at the time though. Anyways, I would assume this is what made him nervous, plus the drag racing and the vette trying to run...lol.
Anyways, he walks up and I immediately fess up and tell him how stupid that was and I am sorry and I deserve whatever he thinks bla bla...I was basically rambling to save my ass. He then asks me what branch of service I was in...I told him honorably discharged service connected disabled USMC vet. He then tells me "thank you for your service, here's what is gonna happen, I am going to make sure you have no warrants, verify your insurance and if it's all clear I will write you a warning..." It was as if I was dreaming, did he just say I would only get a warning!
"Just a few minutes and I will have you on your way" I tell him I am sorry again and he says "listen man I get it, I got a big ford diesel and I get all kinds of chevy and dodge guys who want to race me from the lights, just don't do it, it's not worth it!" "By the way, I enjoyed watching a mustang beat a vette!"
He then asked if I knew the guy in the vette, which I didn't. I would assume he got away, but i'm fairly certain they had our plates BEFORE the cherries turned on.
WTF!!!! Anyways, I am still in shock over here and wanted to share my story. Be safe and smart everyone! I learned a lesson today that could have cost me my license at the bare minimum!
