Heads up for all that want gear changes.

Personally going through all the crap involved with gear changes on these new S550 mustangs. Went from a 3.31 pumpkin to a 3.73 pumpkin and of corse you need the Whipple Flare tool or equivalent tuning devise to enjoy the fruits of your labors. After spending the money on the pumpkin, installing everything myself and now paying for a flash tool to make everything work, I could be a bit happier. I know changes can be made in the " as built " data. I did the exact same swap on my 2012, no tuning needed. As for all the future S550 owners and those that want to modify their cars, there has to be an easier and cheaper way for all of us to use different gears and tire selections. I for one do not want the next guy going through what I and many others have. There has to be a cheat, a fuse, something simple to get around this BCM issue without tuning. With all the brain power collected on this forum, there just has to be a way. All I want to do is save the next guy or gal the problems, headaches and lost wheel time that I and others have had to go through. So come on everyone, let's kick this things ass once and for all. I am willing to use my own Mustang as a test rig. Come one come all, let's put our heads together and overcome this problem together for us and all future S550 owners.

Thank you. That's some great info on the as built data. I'm trying to find a much simpler solution. I'll poor over the data some more and see what I can find. I know the BCM has 3 fuses. Trying now to figure out what each one does and controls.

The BCM puts the car in limp mode until it receives the correct flash or walk around.

I just called Ford tech service by me, said probably would be free but to stop down and he could update my cal if I did a gear change. Prob the easiest thing to do.

They don't have the ability to do it despite what they told you. They probably have no idea what's involved.

I've contacted to local dealers, one service manager told me that he had no idea of what I was talking about and said the car would learn the gears, not true. The second dealership said they could not perform the service I requested but was willing to charge me for diagnostics and confirmed the case of warranty problems if I changed the gears myself.

Lol i recently swapped gears from 3.73 to 3.31 and drove 100 miles like that, and went WOT etc. No issues at all, no CEL, no limp mode etc.

Got home and flashed it with the flare too regardless because I had ordered it at same time I bought gears and did a crank relearn for safety measures. Car runs fine also.

I will keep trying, if that's the only way, I will try to make it easier and cheaper. I will not give up. All my problems will be solved soon, I want everyone else to have a much easier time doing it. It might be in vein but if it helps just one other person, I'll feel better. I've learned so much and have been helped by so many here on 6G, just want to give back.

I can make tire revs per mile and gear ratio changes via my hp tuners scanner. I don't did it for my larger tires and it worked perfectly. My speed at a given rpm and gear is dead on now.

The speedometer isn't the issue, the BCM doesn't correlate with the new gear data output, making the car think it's spinning the clutch putting it in limp mode, no high reving, car just doesn't act right at all. I think most of this is right. All I know is I went from 3.31 to 3.73 gears and until my flare tool gets here, the car runs like crap, limp mode is a great name for it. I should be burning through gears and reving to and past redline in every gear but nope. Limp noodle, sitting in the garage.

Im so sorry but what is so difficult about flashing your car? If you are changing your gears you probably have other mods so your warranty is trashed anyway so you might as well get a proper tune and ANY tuner can update the gearing or you can do it yourself with HP tuners. Also if you do not have mods and have a stock car, the ford flasher also has the option. These cars have a very advanced traction control system and stability control, and no offense but its 2017. I dont feel changing out a rear and flashing a car to be all that difficult. Also why would you switch from a 331 to a 373? Whether you are drag racing, auto x'n, doing a HPDE it is better all around to have the 331 or 335s.
