Please, tell me - how do you know what a10 is like ? Have you driven it in a _Mustang_ ? If not, you sound like a fanboy over upcoming car you're about to buy. I get, you're excited and yes, it might be good. But remember - it's a Ford. With all my love for this brand - I prefer to think straight and not speculating over something that nobody had driven (and don't mention GM one - programming may be entire different)

Ironically, it seems there is a lot, you don't know about the new A10. One does not have to use it, to know it's technical merits or specs, etc. So again, what is so superior with BMW's 7-spd, over Ford's (co-engineered/developed) A10 ..? I am talking about racing application on the track, too.

Really, you sound backed into a corner, and fail to understand that Ford isn't going to debut a sh!tbox.


My point still stands in comparing the two.
If you are choosing an auto, I don't see a difference between Ford's new A10 in the Mustang, over BMW's dual-clutch in the M2. And if you are going 6-spd manual, the Mustang is a no brainer. (Plus you get a real mechanical lsd.)

The only decision left, is which Mustang in MY2018 do I want..?

I was at the dealer today for my oil change and saw a GT/CS for first time in Lightning Blue.... It really popped. I felt inclined to drive that off the lot rather than wait. yet 18 is around the corner, but it was at MSRP and also was missing ACC which I desire if I were to have a new car.

I think these are good points.

Getting a couple grand off of a comparable 2017 may be hard for some folks to pass up.

Second, we just don't know enough about the motor yet but starting with higher compression immediately makes it look less appealing as a basis for boost and it may take the aftermarket a little while to figure out some of the new hardware and software. It very well could prove to be less of a mod-friendly version of the 5.0L that we all love, even if it's a bit more powerful out of the box.

That said, they have already mentioned a higher redline...which if nothing else, tells us that the internals are at least as strong as the '15-'17 motors which support 700+rwhp reliably.

We definitely need to wait 'n' see on this.

2017 is looking better to me each day

Down here theres a 2k rebate off the 2017 model. Don't know how long it will last but I bet there will be deeper discounts once the 2018 models hit the lots.
The front fascia on the 2018 is still a sore spot for me. I can use whatever I save
on a 2017 model for a few well targeted upgrades.

The upgrades from the refresh are pretty hard to pass up though...

I understand not really caring for some of the cosmetic changes though.

Maybe go see one in person, it might grow on you. And... then maybe it won't. Might be at least worth the test drive.

Depends also on the engine specs and I am going to see one in person & test drive it if possible before the 2017's are off the lots.

All I know is that my 2017 that I ordered is On the dealers lot. I go kick the tires and sign loan papers in Saturday...

Then I have to give it back so they can mod it for me. I'm not all about instant gratification or I would have picked one from the lot 5 weeks ago. But I don't know if I could wait another year either...

Pricing and announced HP/TQ and supposed times (1/4mile, 60' etc) will be when most people make decisions. The majority of buyers will never do more than a catback on the car, so if Ford announces a more powerfull and faster mustang for a comparable price, then the 18's will sell very well which will push the 17's down in price. The fact that Ford is being quiet on the new specs leads me to believe they will be quite hefty indeed and Ford doesn't want the 17 to stop selling yet.

As for me, I plan on a 17 in the next couple months. For my budget with current incentives a Premium GT w/PP is a nice comfortable amount. None of the stuff on the 18 to me warrants more money, which it obviously will be. I like Grabber Blue, I will mod to a degree and feel better with a cheaper payment vs having the next best thing.

Funny how your wording on this struck me. At some level I am with you. It seems that people (me included) always seem to have the need to have the next and newest. (I am excluding people where things line up for them and they need a new "thing" vs It's new... I must have it)

I finally broke that cycle with my cell phone... still running on my iPhone 6+. works great etc. and you have no idea how hard it was for me to not upgrade; being in the IT industry.

I wonder when we (general we) got to this point. I don't really remember being this way in high school, college...

I hear you on this. This is partially human nature and it's partially by design. New products are specifically designed to undermine the joy that we got from the last thing we bought, even if that last thing still serves us perfectly well.

For an item like a smartphone or a new car, being the latest/greatest version is a selling point...and it's a selling point that can be removed after the fact, retroactively making us value our previous purchase less and want to replace it when something else has that title of "the new thing."

For those of us who were cursed with loving things like cars and other tech, we have to either commit to being perpetually in debt or figuring out a way to be satisfied with what we have.

As an S197 owner, I've been tempted by the S550 for over two years now...all the while, my 2011 only has 30k miles on it, has done everything I could ever ask from a cheap muscle/pony coupe and is long since paid for. Yet...the odds are looking better every day that I'll replace it as soon as the '18s are out. :headbonk:

I am all for new tech and what not, but for me I finally came to the conclusion that in this day and age the tech is so rapidly changing that you have to be fairly well off to warrant upgrading every year. I am on an iPhone 6S, and only because my 6 took a crap in the middle of a 6 hour business trip leaving my with no directions, no way to stay in contact, nothing. So I didn't have much option besides trading it in on a new one (in which case I said screw it and got the 6S lol).

I can remember graduating high school and dreaming of owning a Yellow SN95 Cobra (I did actually get a Mystic some years later) and to think what the S550 Mustang is like now compared to those is just mind boggling.
