More and more I see regular mustangs as well as GT350's with GT350R badges and R stripes. I know it is their car to personalize as they wish but do you believe this is wrong?

I think its a lie and is trying to make their cars out to be something they are not.

Do you believe how I feel or do you think its perfectly fine as long as they don't try to sell it as a GT350R

Meh... i don't care, i know i don't have an R but i also don't care if people put on GT350 parts on their base GT's... the only time i'd have a problem is if they were lying directly to people and telling them that their car is something its not, at that point i think its dishonest

I'M GOING TO CHANGE THE COLOR OF THE CALIPERS TO RED AS I'M NOT A FAN OF BLACK WHEELS WITH BLACK CALIPERS. THE RED REALLY WILL MAKE IT POP!

I WON'T SCREW AROUND WILTH BADGING THOUGH.

Putting the spoilers, stripes or wheels on to improve performance or appearance is one thing. "labeling" the car something its not is another.

Now if they put badges on that don't correspond to another vehicle or trim then I'm fine. (i.e. the Coyote for GTs only or P-51 Badges) Putting on "R" badges or as I've seen in the past "GT-R" badges is a lie and the owner is trying to represent something that it is not.

The average driver won't be able to tell it's not the real deal.
True car enthusiasts however, will quickly recognize a poseur.
Imagine the faker's embarrassment when real GT350/R owners call him/her out.
I never understood the motivation to misrepresent your car as something it is not.
Tribute cars already?
IMHO...this practice is tasteless.
But hey, it's their vehicle to modify as they choose.

I agree with you. My thought is, its not an R, it'll never be an R, so why try to make it one. Personally, I prefer some things about the non-R over than the R...specifically the track-pack spoiler, I think it looks/flows better with the lines of the car than the R spoiler. Just my opinion though, to each his own. I respect all takes at personalizing the car to you, and I get adding a few bits here and there from an R that you like. But to go at it with the goal of trying to fool others into thinking its an R is just a waste of an already great car...it kind of brings the car down IMO.

Its funny you bring this up because I was recently contacted by a local dealer that I had inquired about allocations with when I was first looking into buying a 350. They told me that they had a slightly used R and asked if I was interested. I had already ordered mine but was curious anyway since it was local so I had them send me pics (attached). The first thing I noticed was the seats and replied to the salesman and told him that it wasn't an R. He never responded back. Flash forward a few weeks and I see the car at a local car show. My first thought was "I wonder if the owner thought it was an R when he bought it", lol. They were selling it for $68,995 reduced to $64,900 so I feel like they were hoping to find a buyer that thought it was an R, very shady.

People can do what they want. Their car, their money. It's surprising though, that Ford hasn't made some of these parts "dealer installed" but what the heck. People who spend a bucketload making their non-R look like an R probably should have held out for a real one.

The real concern is that some point down the road those fake R's will be represented and sold as real Rs. Fake collectibles have been created for eons. Buyer beware.

I have no problem with putting performance equipment from the R on any other car. To me that's the essence of hot rodding, which I love. But there's very little reason for putting an R badge on your car other than trying to pretend your car is an R. I despise crooked people who would pretend their car is an R.

That's kind of my thought. I'd never swap to red badges on my 350, but I would probably heavily consider switching to the R wing if it weren't for the trunk holes I would have to deal with.

I wouldn't and personally think it's stupid to badge your car as something it's not but it's not my car so...

If someone had to ask, if I saw a 350 that wasn't an R with R badges, in the back of my head, I'd judge but get over it 5 seconds later but I'd be judging nonetheless.

Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.

And Cobra parts on the regular mustang has been happening since probably the 70s! I would do the exhaust and maybe the front grill/lip, but NEVER badges. Cant pretend to be something its not.

I wouldn't do it. Don't really care if others do as long as they don't represent or advertise as an authentic 'R'. How many 1st gen clones are out there?

I'm all for adding performance parts from the R as others have suggested. Hell, I have an R splitter in my garage that will go on (in conjunction with a carbon2carbon r wing) when my track skills progress such that I'll want the aero benefit.
