"Oh, the one you previously installed/downloaded was incorrect or corrupted" we had to go ahead and redown load it"

Waiting for a dealer to do that.

As for "leaving power on the table", is saying it loosely. It's beyond the engineering recommended specs to sell it stock. Meaning: parts may or may not ware down prematurely (brakes, plugs, tires, so forth); high octane gas the new standard; and the delay in carb emission testing that would of cost Ford Motor Corp a fortune getting the car to market likely playing as the larger factor.

The fact that a change in temperature or getting watered down gas wont cause me bending a rod through my aluminum block will make me a happy camper.

That sounds about how much they'd like to take from you yes but you can get it for a lot less. Buy the Performance Pack from Levittown Ford a sponsor here on the forum or from Steve Powell at Tasca Ford at a discount. Then find a ASE certified tech to do the install at a much more reasonable cost. Orrrrrr if you can install it yourself and get an ASE certified technician you have a good relationship with to verify it for you and sign off you could save a lot more.
Who do you take the car back to if the tune screws up your car? At least, if I get the tuner installed from a dealer listed on FP site, I can take it back to them directly with no questions asked.

Not sure how it works through 3rd party. If they didn't install it, why would they take your business to fix an engine or tune issue?

I definitely got the impression from my dealer that problems that occur after the 36000 will be taken care of if I go back to them and have all the receipts of the purchase and install from them. So it sounds like a little extra insurance to pay the extra and have them install in my case anyway.

I would bet any amount of money that after that warranty is up and you come to them with a problem, they will tell you to pound sand and hand over some money. I would get anything in writing signed by the GM and Service Manager.

Those sound like pretty words, words that do nothing more than turn into orange wax in my ears. :gossip:

Yep. Well said. They are not going to do anything that they dont have to and even more so if they can make more profit

I agree that it sounds too good to be true. That is why I asked 3 different managers there. The parts manager, and service manager and just the sales manager. I said to the service manager" If I throw a rod at 70000..." I didn't even get to finish the sentence and he said if you have the receipts and paper work of them installing and purchasing I will be covered. They also do aftermarket SCT tuning and said if I get one of those tunes, yep, warranty is gone. He then also pointed out that the warranty of the actual Ford Performance parts would end at 36000 though.

With this tune they might be a little more involved to try and actually prove that the tune caused the damage which is what the warranty does state they need to determine.

JTMAT i read your build.
Can you tell me what boost increase if any increase at all there is with the FP tune?

Cheers
RedcruzerI just went over 400 miles... mix of city/hwy (mostly hwy) and got 28.8 mpg. This is a trip I've done previously.... normally get 24 to 28 mpg. I thought mpg would be worse, but seems to be on target of what I got before. I stayed out of "s" so my mpg was 28...

Arno_ecobeast, Not sure I fully know how to answer your question... In "d" it just pulls very smoothly. All the way up. Unfortunately, I accidentally hit a number below 100 when passing a truck dropping crap off the back of it... seriously, it was so smooth, I did not realize it.

Before you would know you were trying to get faster... now you are just there.

As I also said before, the power is very predictable... I don't have to get into "s" to get power when I need it. In "d" the power is there if I put the gas peddle down two gears (okay, not sure the correct term here, but I don't have to put the peddle to the floor to get power, like I did on the stock tune).

I liked the way it drove before, but after this trip, I love it. No more odd hanging gears when trying to go fast (that aggravated me to no end).

Far as the distance before I started getting all power... I'd say 30 to maybe 80 miles (not really sure... not even sure I'd relate it to miles driven... could be the number of times I turned the car off and on, but I'm not sure)... not sure who is coming up with 200 miles. Sounds a bit ridiculous to me... but if that is what people are experiencing, that is fine.

FP tune feels refined, predictable, and smooth.

I called FP...

1) Sound Symposer is turned off.

2) You still keep your 5/60 power train... unless tune related, which the guy fell short of saying impossible...

3) asked about this dealer, ASE or self install with "check-off" of dealer ASE. Basically warranty is only covered if dealer or ASE fully installed. Period... I asked a couple of times (different ways) and he did not move...

My take on warranty? This is all about relationships... what works for one person might not work for you. I have a relationship with my dealer, so they installed... hopefully they will take care of me. Good $200 spent, IMO.

If you have a relaionship with an ASE and can get the "check-off" and they will cover you if something goes wrong, go for it...

Just be careful.. if in doubt, get a dealer to install. I've had all Hondas before my stang so I have no relationship with Ford dealers. My situation is different than someone who has friends at dealerships or knows an ASE. Don't go cheap and screw yourself up on warranty listening to people who don't know but attempt to come off like their situation will work for everyone. Or someone who says "maybe" or "should"... in other words, they don't know.

As others stated get it on writing or it didn't happen.

Thanks jtmat. Great info. We have similar builds and live in similar areas so I value your input. Plan on finding time next month to get this done.

I will learn more next week when I take a much longer trip. Be around 900 miles round trip. Do some runs out in the country and maybe hit the mountains, if the weather is okay.

I'll report back on that trip...

I called about the symposer since I noticed noises changed (not bad or good, just different). Still learning things.

I'm enjoying this tune. I want to hit some more city driving to see if my mpg stays where it was before.
