Tire pressure

The tire information thing on the door says a pressure of 32 all round. I took my car for service and asked them to check the tires----and they set them at 28. What should it be?

It should be set according to what the manufacturer tag on the car says. Did they tell you they set them to 28 or is it that you DIC is showing 28? Maybe there is a discrepancy between the DIC and their pressure gauge.

They should be 32, I like mine a little higher at 34 makes the car more precise imo.

They didn't tell me anything. The display is 28

Go buy a decent tire gauge and see what it reads then adjust accordingly. Chances are you're prolly gonna need to add 4-5 psi.

Also to note - tire pressure should be set and checked when tires are cold, not after driven on.

I've confirmed 32 via my own gauge on cold tires. It matched the TPS reading. I run 34-35 most of the time hot.

The same recently happened to me. I didn't have time to change my oil and rotate the tires myself so I took it to the local Lincoln dealership and had them do it. I noticed on the paper work that it stated that the tech had adjusted my tire pressure and he also set it to 28 psi. To be honest, it kind of eerked me a little bit that he messed with it as I had it set to 32 psi (cold). The tire pressure normally rises 2°-3° when they warm up, so 32 is about perfect for daily driving to me.

In any even though, like the others have said, the cold pressure is 32 psi according to the door jam information. That's what I've kept mine on for daily duties and only otherwise adjust it when the car is going to see track time.

The PSI on the door is what Ford recommends (cold), but you can divert from that and be okay. Comes down to preference, really. To compare, I run 28 in the rear and 30 front on mine...

I had opposite installed tires and was at 35 PSI was too high, go with 32 think car feels best there.

I agree. I started out at 36 and had to come down to 32. Actually, in the heat of the summer I went to 29 cold for track days. Went up to 42 and over 200 degrees hot. (These were Michelins. Pirellis run cooler and would melt at anything like that temperature.)

Keep in mind:
* Ambient temperature can affect pressure: colder == lower
* TPMS sensors seem to calibrate while the car is moving
* TPMS are probably off by 1-2PSI all the time (I have a reference gauge)
* Tires have optimal temperature, not pressure; so depending how you drive it might be worthwhile to have more or less pressure. Getting the right number is also very subjective.

For easy driving on the OEM all seasons, I keep them 31PSI in the fronts and 30PSI on the rears as read by my gauge. The TPMS gauges show 32/32. For spirited driving I'll drop the pressure by 2-3PSI.

I'd say 28PSI (TPMS) would be a little low especially if you drive fast and/or for a long duration.

Yeah, my TPMS seem to read about a pound high... Needless to say, i set them with a guage. It is both easier and more accurate.

Get a reliable gauge before doing anything else. I have good luck with Accugage.I have 2 that I purchased several years apart. They both read the same and surprisingly match exactly the TPMS display. There are other good ones too.
