Winter Tires

Living in the north east and planning on driving through the winter except for when snow is on the ground. Any recommendations on a winter tire that is good for the dry/wet roads below freezing temperatures? Don't really need Blizzacks as not planning on driving in actual snow.

If you are not driving in snow the MPSS tires are OK in cold weather. I drove my car in january and February weather in Chicago and had no problems as long as I stayed out of full throttle. If you get ANY amount of snow on the pavement . . . You are screwed .

I'm not sure if they make them in GT350 sizes, but I've been satisfied with the cold weather and light snow performance of the Continental ExtremeContact DWS tires that I run on my old BMW beater. Being an all-season instead of a dedicated winter tire, I don't have to worry about burning them up on the random days that the temperatures hop back above freezing.

I'd still go with a snow tire. They have a super soft compound that will grip better in cold temperatures than any all weather tire out there. They last quite a while, too.

Michelin pilot sport as/3. Not a dedicated snow tire, but great all year round. Had 21" of snow during a storm last winter in MD, and drove me 700hp Rwd mercedes amg with 0 issues....

used Pirelli Sottozero's last winter on a separate set of wheels - i really liked them, put 12k miles on the set and see some rear wear but still good for at least another season. I would not risk the pilot SS's in the cold unless you are only driving very sporadically and dont want to deal with dedicated snows. Mine is a DD so wanted good shoes...

I agree, why spend money on anything other than what is going to keep you safest in the winter?

Hi, can you pls specify what "separate set of wheels" you used ? Did you buy a second set of GT350 wheels ? I did the same when I had my 2016 GT, bought a separate set of wheels with Michelin Alpin's on it and worked perfect all winter. I was told that the GT set won't work on the GT350 so will need to sell and find another solution.

If you buy into planning for "that day" and don't intend to drive the 350 in actual snow, consider buying a winter beater- snow, salt, sand, and the other chemicals you'll be driving in will it trash inside and out no matter how careful you are.

Oh, I agree totally. My mustangs always get put in the barn just before Thanksgiving and don't get out till April 1. I have a SUV for the winter driving.

Tough to call it for winter these days, last year in it was in the 50s for Christmas..

Can't bring myself to do it now but in October, if not already available, I was gonna post a thread about winter storage and how folks go about it.

I have 19x8.5 MMD Axims with snow tires on them. Your source is correct: the GT or GT PP 19 inch wheels do not fit the GT350.

Yeah, buy a winter beater and store the 350. Unless you don't plan on keeping the 350 long. It's not so much the snow but the salt and chemicals...not good no matter what you do.

It's probably good advice but I'm not going to take it. I do have a winter beater but I only drive it on the really bad days.

Imagine if I told you that you should buy a beater because the summer sun will destroy your car's rubber exterior moldings and dash, etc. Any time you plan to park a car outside you should really take the beater rather than the GT350. This is really true for any location in the southern US.

And you really shouldn't drive it if it's going to rain. Rain is bad for the paint, you know.

If you are that sensitive about preserving the car, pretty soon you are never driving the car - you are just looking at it sitting in the garage. I'm not going to be that way.

It's a car and it's going to deteriorate over time. Yes I agree it sucks. Yes I agree that it's worth the time to be careful and take care of the car as much as you can. However, I'm not saving the car for the next guy. I'm having as much fun with it as I can. That includes driving it - A LOT.
