It will be interesting to see how Ford responds. GM did NOT respond to the LS7 dropped valve fiasco and part of the reason why I didn't get back into a Vette. Dodge did response to the oil consumption issues with the V10 in the early Gen5's with several motors being replaced under warranty. Interesting to see how this pans out.
I feel for you tech pack guys.
Kurac- I was one of the LS7 owners that was burned by GM with a dropped valve. As a result of the way they handled it, I will never, ever buy another GM product and try to talk any prospective GM buyers out of it. And now I have a Tech GT350, even though I haven't gone limp yet, I live vicariously through all who have. Maybe I should act my age and get a Prius. Not. :headbonk:

and I drive rather spirited, in the hot, humid Austin weather. I dont think that it has been under 90 and not humid for almost a month...and I have not experienced any cooling issues what so ever. Air conditioning always blasting too.
I hear you Hill Country. It's a f**ing oven in Texas this time of year. I have given my car every chance to go limp, with a very heavy foot and A/C never off. I also did two road trips over 250 miles stopping only for fuel.

Just to add another data point... I have a 2016 GT350 with Tech Pack. I spent Tuesday/Wednesday at MidOhio for a driving school. High ambient temperatures were in the mid 70's. Even during lead/follow sessions behind instructors driving Acura ILX's, the car went into limp mode after around 12 minutes. Limp mode was encountered even more quickly once open lapping with limited passing was allowed. The 2016 Ecoboost and previous gen Boss 302 had no issues completing full sessions.

I don't expect the tech pack to be capable of running a 4 hour enduro without coolers. I do think that 20 minutes open lapping per hour (40 min cooldown) in ambient temperatures 90* and below is reasonable. A Mustang with v6, ecoboost or v8 is capable of that. IMO, Ford should be ashamed and embarrassed that any variant of their 'halo' Mustang can't keep up with a luxury sedan for 20 minutes of lead/follow.

I'll be scheduling a trip to the dealer to file a 'complaint' and have them send it up the chain as well as calling Ford performance.

You've unfortunately joined a growing club. Please register your complaint, so that this remains a pressure point for resolution.

WOW! . . . It is amazing how the tone of this thread changes the moment Deysha shows up. And this thread started from speculation by someone that doesn't even have a GT350 yet. I recognize that there is a problem, but it seems we are attempting to make this more serious than it is only to put pressure on Ford for a quick fix. Those who have experienced limp mode on the street, I feel there are other issues going on other than the transmission overheating. I am waiting to experience this phenomenon myself, only to understand it better.
Agreed!

I have hit limp mode on the highway in horrible Chicago stop and go drive. Message flashed reduced power. Brought it to dealer and service manager has been pretty useless? They of course reset the codes instead of reading them. In this case I am almost positive it was based on coolant temps, not transmission. I literally was in 90degree plus temps and literally took 2 + hours to go 20 miles. Car had AC going and when car starting bucking did the old turn heater on trick to make it off the highway. So speed, rpm or tracking wasn't responsible. Car has a lot of safeguards. Good and bad?

Car has performed admirably at speed and track on its 1 trip.

I do think the dealers don't report back to Ford with issues on these cars whether factory or dealer related. I am still waiting for the dealer to replace multiple items on my car including front bumper that they power drove screw tips through putting on the splitter.
I just think some of the dealers either weren't taught properly or just don't care or just cut corners that create the problems.
I am pretty happy overall less the items the dealer needs to fix.(Supposedly in the works) As for the coolers I would like them just because I think it would help with the longevity of the car as well as back up the Shelby Performance Lineage.

Removing the cats will not help
this.

with long tube headers and high flow green cats, heat soak on the trans is identical. The issue is the heat that the front cluster on the transmission generates.

I am very aware of the temp readings from the trans. it is the only reason that I bought an nguage.

I do have the parts to retrofit a cooler to the trans, just havent gotten the time to install them. i will be using all factory parts, save an electric pump and aftermarket lines.

That prompt on the dash that states Reduced engine power due to high engine temps is the transmission...that's what my dealer told me

a few of us have essentially been told to "pound sand, we can't do anything for you, find your own solution."

Some have already ditched their gt350, others have opted to take a bath on the 2016 and order a 2017, but all, i can promise are not happy with how the scenario has been handled.
Unfortunately, I already took "the bath" on my '16. Can't afford to accrue any more negative equity. Between my car hitting limp mode 3 times, and last week making the exhaust note unbearable, I am just about done with this car.

Sorry, another thread I know, but I replaced the speakers to make the stereo bearable, and now the exhaust note being piped through the stereo is so loud, I can't stand to rev it any more.

So, I fixed the overheating issue, because the manufactured exhaust note is unbearable, so the car doesn't see over 5000rpm anyway.:headbonk:

Been to dealer 2 times for the overheating. Pound sand was about all I got. Charge me $7000 over list for the most track capable mustang ever, only to find out it is totally un-trackable. Told me I should've bought the track pack. Nice answer, huh?

I hope you guys get a fix but it seems unlikely Ford will retrofit cars short of a law suit. They may make the car less restrictive in terms of temps.

I think this thread should be split into two different threads.

I can understand a tech/base car going into limp mode on the track. Maybe not so quick, but I still understand it.

I don't get a tech/base car going into limp mode due to overheating just driving on the freeway when it is hot out. That is inexcusable and could be a NHTSA reportable issue.

I Own a 16 tech gt350. No limp issues as of yet (1100 miles) but no long, spirited drives in high/hot weather temps yet. Will be making a longer drive in a couple of weeks which should include some spirited driving so I will see what my temps look like then.

I have a feeling the less expensive option will be offered free of charge by Ford for those who are hitting limp mode on the street.

That prompt on the dash that states Reduced engine power due to high engine temps is the transmission...that's what my dealer told me
I understand but my dealer's service manager is such a no it all on this car you cannot talk to him.
His answer is what do you expect. This is normal. Excuse after excuse.

Before I went back in April with the car for overall check out, first oil change and splitter install. I set an appointment for the car and asked the service manager about all the above. He told me the oil and filter were standard items they had in stock and splitter is a no brainer. Of course I forwarded the install video that was on the forum so they did it correctly.
Long story short. Car was in dealer for 3 days? Why? No oil or filter. Splitter took longer than they thought which was still installed wrong!

The dealer is nice but the service manager does not care. I pointed out a chipped rim and scratches and chips in the beginning on delivery and they won't cover it! Their way around it was to buy some protection package that covered dents, rim damage etch and they will get it covered. I paid an additional $1200 for this to get other items they said Ford won't cover to be covered. Waiting since dealer told me they ordered the replacement parts. I feel I was scammed but hopefully will get these items fixed. It's going on a month now and waiting for front wheel, new complete bumper assembly w splitter.

Love the car but getting to hate all the lies that seem to go with it.

I also never PPF'd my car because service manager said it voids external body warranties. I'm glad I didn't do it right off the bat because the dealer probably wouldn't be supposedly replacing front bumper because of that excuse. Just exhausting on what we are getting told.

Reading all this saddens me. I had an LS7, that GM wouldn't stand behind. I've had a 350z that consumed oil and Nissan would stand behind it. I had a 335i with issues that BMW never fixed. I really am hoping ford does us right. If so, I'll buy Ford forever. If not, this will be my last Ford, and I'll move on to Porsche or something. I love this car, but the company needs to right it's wrongs. Building a track car, that can't handle being driven hard, is inexcusable.
