Anyone read the GT350 Supplement on p.25 regarding adding Trans and Diff coolers to Base or Tech packages ? My Tech Pack GT350 is about to be built and this sounds like a good addition if it is really possible.

You are probably right about adding the trans and diff coolers to the GT350 not being an option once ordered as a Tech Pack car. This is quite baffling and aggravating as the GT350 Supplement clearly suggests that you can and SHOULD add the two coolers under certain circumstances.

Considering the diff cooler is driven from an external electric pump and the covers are the same, the diff cooler shouldn't be hard to add aftermarket. Though I'm not sure about the wiring up of the temperature sensor which is definitely absent on the tech package.

Transmission would be harder given the integral pump, but at least the temperature sensor is already there for that. Ford Performance hasn't ruled out the availability of these as aftermarket kits, but its early days. I'd expect it to take a while before we see these in the catalog, probably not this track season.

Attached pictures show the underbody of the R prototype diff shows the cooler plumbing and temperature sensor. There appears to be something also on top of that sensor... perhaps a pressure sensor?

The other is a picture of my Tech package diff I just took. Clearly the same cover with a bunch of plugs.

The pictures of the transmission out of a tech pack car shows the same casting. I don't know if the pump inside is present. It might be like the early sti 6spd where the pump was present in all of them regardless of coolers. They used spray bar lubrication for extra cooling, thus needed the pump.

If it is not present it will still be much easier and cheaper with the identical transmission case.

In the FastFordMuscle site, in the picture just below the bell housing one copied above, it says that non cooler optioned cars get a DIFFERENT transmission that does not feature the transmission cooling plumbing. Not sure how far do the differences go.

As long as there is an tranny inlet filler plug hole for fluid fill up/removal, it is highly feasible that an aftermarket electric cooler can be retrofitted easily. Look at Callaway Corvettes or Doug Rippie Motorsports.

http://dougrippie.com/products/drm-c5-transmission-cooler-kit/

I am awaiting my Tech Oxford White, Blue Stripe GT350 (April/May) and this same questions keeps me up at night, besides waiting for the Shelby.

When I raced my C5 Z06 in Germany and modded the hell out of it, the DRM coolers were the "Shiznit"! I liked the toggle on/off switches and the DayGlow Autometer gauges I added to monitor temps at the race track.

It seems to me that a good aftermarket company that is familiar with racing would develop something for the Ford Shelby as their will be surely demand. On the other hand, I think I could easily retrofit the C5 Z06 cooler given enough time and adapters and mounting solutions. The DIY modder can adapt something for their purpose IME.

Regardless, I can't wait to see how each of these cars will hang in the spring and summer when temps start going up and we get to push the limits of these cars more. After a few laps you will know most noticeably first hand these few things:

1. If I need better brakes :eyebulge:
2. Is the suspension good enough
3. Are my differential/tranny getting enough cooling
4. Do I have enough HP
5. Do I suck at race car driving??

Okay, I think a few us have an infliction called "mod fever".

FWIW, that SVTP source article was published at the end of March last year. Long before mass production or deliveries started. Remember when we all thought the Tech package wouldn't have an oil cooler at all? Also, I think the writer of the article just could've inferred that information rather than actually had hard evidence they would use an entirely different transmission.
