UPR Catch Can Noise?

Hello everyone,

I installed my UPR dual valve can the other day ago on my stock ecoboost. After I installed it, I noticed that there is a weird noise coming from the engine compartment when the boost starts to kick in at around 2,500 rpm. The best way I can think to describe it is an old metal mayonnaise lid screwing onto a glass mayonnaise jar. It's not exactly quite like that but close, and it's not very loud. (Kind of like a bearing sound maybe?)

It only seems to happen when the boost starts to kick in, and it goes away as soon as I left off the gas pedal or after reaching about 3,200 rpm where the engine gets loud enough to drown out the noise.

Has anyone else encountered this noise before? I figured it might be just the blowby circulating in the can, or maybe even a leaky hose? I've double checked all my connections and even double checked to make sure the check valves are installed the right way so everything is set as far as that is concerned. Today I just quickly took everything off and put the motor back to stock and the noise is gone, so it had something to do with the can system.

The only thing I didn't do was the recommended replacement of the UPR valve with the Boomba one.

Any thoughts?

Mine started to make a decently loud suctioning noise after the installation of my DVCC. I too went back over all of my connections and such. Everything was tight and properly installed. I think what you're experiencing sounds similar and is normal.

I've never cracked mine open, but I'd be curious if the baffle inside has to be "seated" per se. Also, crank that can down hard. It hangs off of a tiny little edge so if there's a spot it will vibrate, it'll be where it's bolted.

I brought my car into ford because I thought there was a pulley issue. Sounded similar to what your talking about except mine would do it at idle too. Ford just called me and said the catch can is causing the sound. Said if he unplugged the hose to the inlet coupler on the turbo it stops making the noise... I'll know more about it when I pick my car up tomorrow

Just a quick heads up on the noise you are all hearing is from the new design as we changed the internal baffle to increase the airspeed wich forces the coalescing process to improve the oil containment during WOT. The stronger vacuum signal through the new system creates air noise.

Would there be a benefit to upgrade if I have the old design?

Yes, it's absolutely normal as the diffuser shield is what creates the air noise as it flows across it.

Threadjack: I have the old design I guess. How much better is the new one and is it worth changing the baffle out?

In a week that will be ready.
