Hey everyone, I was wondering if anyone else has had this issue and come up with a solution. If not, I would like help brainstorming the issue below...

I installed a UPR dual valve catch can on my ecoboost, and I took it off to empty it today. The issue I'm having is that I now cannot get it to mount back onto the car using the ground strap bolt from the factory labelled S 010 :frusty:. I can mount the ground strap and the catch can separately, but I can't get them both on together. The bolt seems to be a little too short or the mounting bracket a bit to thick to catch the threads. Does anyone know where I can get a longer one or have any ideas how to work around this, from possible different mounting locations to how to drill a new hole? I would prefer to find a longer bolt if possible, but I haven't been able to due to the unique design of the factory ground strap bolt. Thanks for the help/input!

As a side note, the ground bolt from the factory isn't perfectly round, and has a slight triangular shape in it. I'm not sure why it comes like this, but this has been the issue in finding a replacement bolt.

I had this problem too. The problem lies with the short bolt and nothing else IMO. I saw two solutions suitable for my tastes:

1. Acquire the correct bolt with matching threads/pitch, but long enough to go past the bottom, and use a nut on the bottom-side.

2. Instead of removing the entire can to drain it, you can unscrew the lower majority by hand without ever having to unbolt it again.

Bonus:
3. Do both 1 and 2. Get the longer bolt and nut to secure it for peace of mind, and continue to unscrew the catch can by hand for future drainage.

Hope it helps some.

Where did you find the longer bolt? That was the best solution in my opinion but I couldn't find it anywhere local or online. Thanks for replying!

I personally would put a ball valve for the drain. The o-ring will thank you in the long run and you'll drain it much quicker and cleaner.

I just did this last weekend for my UPR, 1/4" NPT mini ball valve makes draining a cinch.

Nihilim, it sounds like Ford used a trilobular screw, if it looks like this:

5eOPEA.webp

The purpose of this feature is to form threads as you run the screw into a drilled, unthreaded hole. Saves time and money in the assembly process. Once the threads are formed, you are free to use a normal screw in its place, just make sure you have the right thread pattern.
