Drive shaft removal MGW install

How many people removed the driveshaft and exhaust when they installed their MGW? It seems logical to get these out of the way. Anything I am missing? I will be putting in a new cat back so I assume a few more bolts and then the drive shaft is out of the way as well. Can I just remove the front of the drive shaft and let it hang or do I need to take it completely out? Any feedback from people who have already done this would be appreciated.

the awesome guy that did mine did, for his own piece of mind -- i.e. getting the job done more efficiently as he had the ability and tools to do so quickly.

From pictures and such it seemed it fully removed it all to give himself sufficient room.

OMG, no comparison.

like literally....... do the shifter...... no question about it. MGW is by far the best single mod one can do to their car. I finally get it. Our cars not only have launch control, but they also have flat foot shifting. You can just rip full 7000 RPM shifts on the 1-2, 2-3, 3-4, etc. with never lifting with zero problems, zero deflection or anything. Perfect shifts. I've put short throw shifters on every manual car I've ever had, and this one beats all of those. Every one by a mile. Maybe miles.

Like any new shifter it feels really tight at first, but it really quickly eases up a bit after using it a little and also getting used to it.

I didn't remove the exhaust or driveshaft. Got my big meathands in there just fine.
The only thing the instructions have you do is lower the transmission a little by removing some crossmember bolts.

I can't speak to the MGW, but the Steeda shifter is miles ahead of factory. Just an absolute night-and-day difference.

The Steeda retains the reverse lock-out if that's important to you.

I just unbolted the driveshaft at the trans output side and left it in the car. Made the install so much easier as I didn't have to strain at all getting to the bolts. I also dropped the trans crossmember and lowered the trans about 3-4" on a jack, from there I had all the room I needed.

So the driveshaft will hang from the other end? How difficult is it to remove the driveshaft from that end?

That is my main question. If you only need to take out 4 bolts and drop the driveshaft out of the way why would you bother to fight around it to install the shifter.

It will rest against the top of the exhaust so you don't need to worry about damaging the driveshaft. I also unbolted the exhaust clamps at the trans area and let that hang a tad. Make sure to mark the driveshaft relative to the flex disc and the output shaft of the trans to make sure you bolt it back up the way it came out.

The Steeda retains the reverse lock-out if that's important to you.

I can't think of a manufacturer that doesn't retain a reverse lockout feature.

I thought the MGW removed the reverse lockout, but I could be wrong: I have no firsthand experience with the MGW shifter.

uh no. you still have a reverse lockout with MGW, lol.

It pushes down old school, the steeda retains the factory pull up style.
