I think the constant back and forth is not serving anybody very well but a good side by side comparison would be good for the site. The best option would be for the forum moderators to maybe do a head to head with all the shifter companies so that they can be compared side by side for a thorough unbiased result.

Look if guys prefer the Steeda or the Barton or the Hurst then that's their prerogative. I think the only issue that riles up vendors is when people bash a competitor's product instead of simply sticking with accolades for their choice and brand.

I welcome the opportunity to lay out all the features and advantages that the Race Spec has and respect the details and features that the other companies bring to the table that appeal to different buyers too.

Bottom line is that it doesn't matter what you offer there will always always be people who have different tastes, preferences and opinions. The market is plenty large enough to allow everyone to have choices and companies to make a living offering different designs and feature options.
We should all feel blessed to be able to live in a country that even gives us the freedom to internet bicker lol:usa:

I volunteer to do the testing! I've been waiting weeks now, not sure of which one to purchase.

So I as just reading one of the reviews and the guy said the increase in noise wasn't tolerable, and adding a significant amount of dynomat helped block out some of the added noise. Is this common, I would think there might be more vibration, but wasn't expecting noise.
Also might have been the same guy mention that on the Steeda unit getting into reverse was a little harder until it broke in. Guessing these things don't break in like piston rings, so thinking it might just be something a person gets used to?

I hate to say this, but I put a Barton in shortly after I bought my car. I think I had about 2,000 miles on the car when I installed it. Now dont get me wrong, the shifter does feel nice when doing "Normal" shifting. Though I still get a lock out on the shift from 2nd to 3rd when I get on it at times. It could very well be my lack of seat time, but I was told that the shifter would fix that because the stock one was notorious for it. It could also be too much slop in the suspension bushings. I will be taking care of those shortly. Honestly I probably would have just did the mods to firm up the stock shifter. The stock one is not near as bad as what my 2005 GT had. That one got a Hurst that buzzed like crazy, but overall it shifted pretty good. I still think the M82 transmission they use is not really the greatest in our cars, so not blaming the shifter.

I installed my Barton at like 30 miles and it has been perfect. Normal driving and fast shifting. I pretty much just have to press the shifter straight forward from second and the springs in the shifter self center it and it goes right into 3rd. I sent you a PM. I can get you in touch with A guy from Barton and they will work with you and make it right.

Have you done anything else like fluid swap or the transmission mount from barton?

No noise issues here with my Tri-Ax. I noticed a really slight (only on WOT) harmonic noise at initial install. But then again, I also placed Dynamat in other parts of the shifter itself to eliminate any possible causes of additional NVH. Participated in a weekend cruise on the Mulholland Hwy ending up in Malibu and that noise is gone. My gear whine (normal) I was experiencing with installing STEEDA's red differential inserts is significantly reduced. My Tri-Ax preformed flawlessly, no lockouts and missed shifts. Zero deflection, vibration, and smooth as butter. I had 2 GTs following me during our cruise, they sure were enjoying seeing & hearing my car taking sharp turns & straight aways with ease

I believe the feeling of hardness getting into reverse or any gear is from the elimination of the slop present with the stock shifter. The centering springs are indeed stiff but it also makes for a solid shift feel. I reckon in due time it will break in. Honestly prefer how it is now, hope it does not change.

As for this back and forth, its all just fanboism IMHO. Can't really go wrong with either STEEDA, Barton, or MGW. Part of shopping for the right application is to see and hear what people say about a particular brand. Then make your choice. Or the hell with it and just buy all three and post up your findings.

If you REALLY want the MT-82 to shine then invest some money with Ben Calimer at Calimer transmissions to build it up with Cryo treated internals.

That paired with a Race Spec and well.....

Thanks everyone. No I did not change any fluids as I did not want to go too crazy with the mod process and the warranty. I may be able to squeak by with a shifter change, but I can already hear Ford blaming everything on aftermarket fluid as the cause for an issue on an already questionable transmission from the factory. ;)

I added the Barton trans mount bracket to see what it would be like. I really noticed no change from before. It may feel a little more solid but if so its not much. It felt pretty solid before. I should also add that I have had the white line insert in the transmission mount since I installed the shifter itself at like 30 miles.

I like to disassemble things.
Biff, as long as you use a fluid that meets Ford's minimum specification you'll be just fine. It's when you use a viscosity or formula that doesn't meet the standard that you'll get into trouble.
