Saying you can't enjoy this car unless it's a manual seems slightly elitist and snobby to me. As if to suggest that because the Mustang is a sports car it has to be driven with a stick.

I don't think so. It's more fun to drive and involves you in the driving of the car. The entire point of a fun car, or sports car. Autos are for people movers IMO. The auto on the mustang is not good enough to pick over the manual. It's just a regular slushbox.

Some of us just need the added challenge of a stick shift. I thought I was over it, since I drive an 18 wheeler everyday at work. Nope, I had to get another one. Think I'm ready for an auto 18 wheeler though.

If you want the AT to be "fun," as opposed to just commuting or cruising, you need to keep it in Sport mode. It's just a different car that way. Always in the right gear, holds lower gears when you slow, does automatic throttle-match "blips" when it downshifts, faster throttle response . . . . very different from the novacaine of Drive.

On the other hand, Drive makes the car really pleasant when you want it to just transport you. There are plenty of times when a loud, intrusive car is just in the way, and the AT with its split personality gives a lot of breadth to the Mustang. Amazingly to many of you, some of us prefer it this way!

edit: does anyone know if Ford will do "individual" paint like BMW? I'm really liking the new grey on the GT350........
I doubt they will bring that color over but it would be sweet, its my favorite. IMO just wrap it that color

I disagree. I am very involved in the driving of my car, as it does not drive itself. You keep assuming that your version of fun is the only type a person can experience. I LOVE my auto. I drove stick for years and I do not regret one bit switching to an auto transmission this time. It shifts faster than you and your manual and has the same amount of power under the hood. She hauls ass and is more fun to drive than any prior stick I owned. You may need to manually shift your car to enjoy it, but I enjoy mine just fine. :D

Drove both, thought the auto felt like any traditional slushbox. Glad you enjoy it though, that's all that matters

I have owned two, now older model BMW's a 535i and 540i both manual transmissions prior to owning my current automatic GT. The fit and finish overall was better in the BMW, and while I sometimes miss the manual transmission, I mostly don't. The auto in the Mustang is easy to live with and very civilized in D, but wakes up in S or S+ mode in the premium package, and (for me) is faster off the line than me driving a manual. The exhaust is loud enough for me, but I have a convertible, so I might just be hearing more of it.
