Poll : UK orders - V8 or Ecoboost

Been quite a few comments on here and in the press about the percentage of V8s ordered versus Ecoboosts in the UK so I thought it would be interesting to see what it is here.

Interesting. So far its similar to the first press reports at just over 3/4 going for the V8

I bet Ford didnt expect that.
I would like to see the same poll in arounf 2 years.
I do wonder if its the petrol heads that have pre ordered cars before seeing them and the 'walk in the showroom' buyers will be more EB buyers and change that percentage.

I'd be almost certain that the early adopters (pre knowledge of the mustang) was a high high high percentile of V8 to EB, probably around 80/20% split, much like the forums poll results are showing.

I'd guess that as more and more 'normal' people see them and 'like the look of them' and begin to explore the possibility of it, that the EB will begin to rise and it'll look more like a 65/35%-60/40% split.

Just a comment from me on this, and I'm sure I have said this before a few months back...

Here is the "problem" with the ecoboost. Don't get me wrong, I adore that engine - I think it's perfect for me, it's bloody rapid, and it sounds great. The performance & economy that comes from that thing is phenomenal. But...here's the thing - people see a Mustang & they expect a V8 - it's a natural expectation I guess. I had some bloke chatting to me yesterday about it just before I got in the car, obviously commenting on how nice it looks, asked about how it drives etc. Anyway, the last thing the bloke said to me before I got in & drove off; "oh, can you give the throttle a little blip when you go". Now, do I then explain that, no, this isn't the V8, it's in fact the smaller engine, blah blah blah. Or, like I did - say nothing and give him a little Ecoboost noise? Bugs me a little if I am honest, not because I am dissatisfied with the car in any way but that if falls below some peoples expectations. Hard to explain but there you go!

I think that will be something that will change over time but we will see.

Oh, and I got the classic comment; "great in a straight line but rubbish in the corners right?" I resisted the urge to slap the guy in the face and politely explained the addition of IRS :ford:

I would seriously not worry about it if I was you.

The only reason I brought a Mustang was because they announced it was coming to the UK with a 'sensible' engine. I would not have considered a V8. I was just lucky that in the last few years my business has gone for strength to strength and I no longer need to worry and when it came to the order I was able to go V8.

You have an awesome car with an awesome engine.

This somewhat worries me, i don't think many people will know much the difference between a V8 and a V4 sounding engine, unless they're actually car people. I will be getting an exhaust to beef up the ecoboost, but, to be quite honest, for what it is, it sounds incredible in the cabin from what I can remember (Blah blah, sound improvements), and doesn't sound half bad from outside, nice exhaust (proper materials etc) will get it sounding more burbly, but in short - i don't think the general public will know much of a difference and will just assume that's what it sounds like, not like he's going to see another Mustang and ask them to rev as well.


Also wouldn't worry, your car, not his, who cares what anyone else thinks - then again that's my take on everything :amen:.

P.s still jealous you're rolling round in your EB, making me want mine even more when anyone just mentions it.

I'd be surprised if every V8 owner didn't at some point toy with the Idea of the EB for the sensible-ness of it and the 'money saving' aspect, inner child takes over and says 'No go V8' for some, others stay sensible

I'm one of the people that see a mustang and automatically thinks V8. No other engine should be in it IMO

Not worried at all mate, give zero fucks on what anyone else thinks which is the general attitude of all Mustang owners :ford: I think it's other peoples ignorance that gets to me!

Fair point, goes against my prediction, i'm not a fan of the term 'Ecoboost' either, it's hardly economical, or ecological on either basis, but it's fords internal branding, if it was called '2.3l TURBO' it'd probably sound better to others. or even if it was '2.3 TST' (Twin scroll Turbo). But whatever, fords branding aint it, thankfully that isn't plastered on the car!

Always going to get the v8 brigade looking down their noses at us. I don't care anymore, chances are they haven't driven the turbo and can't appreciate how good it is (it's a very different drive). Americans don't care for it because fuel comes free with their box of lucky charms! Some of us here have to be a little more mindful of fuel costs, and please don't come back with "don't buy a mustang if you're conscious of mpg!" The world is changing!

Took a guy from work out in mine the other day, his comments were, well this is quite smooth, comfortable & well put together ... Not quite the sloppy joe with slaw, washed down with a bud lite that he was expecting. Those comments swiftly followed by "holy crap this thing moves"

Dont tar all us V8 owners with the same brush.
I dont look down my nose at ANY Mustang owner old or new, 4 6 or 8 cylinder.

Have to say, there are a lot of EB buyers in the states too.
