Don't let anyone tell you different, should your engine let go and Ford tells the dealership to investigate, the ECU does has an area that flags a checksum if the car has being mapped / ECU flashed (flash counter). Can they remap for fuel eccom? Just joking.
Serious question now. Are the remaps hidden, can the stealer see them in the event of a warrantee claim?
Some tuners will tell you that as long as your always restore your factory map before visiting dealership for warranty/service work then they cannot detect it.
This is a lie, everytime you flash your ECU, a checksum is flagged and recorded in a seperate part of the ECU and of course the dealership will know how many times the ECU has being flashed by themselves for updates etc. and then the additional amount by yourself or a tuner, this is when they can void your warranty.
Just go in knowing the facts, a guy in the US had his ecoboost explode due to running a plug in box, but he got lucky Ford still approved the repair because after tear down the remap was not responsible as the engine failed for other reasons that was nothing to do with modifications.
