So of all the cars I've owned, this is the first without the door frame around the window. Totally forgot about it this morning when the temp was like -1. Doors were frozen shut so i pretty much just carefully yanked on them till they opened. When I went to close it, they just kinda banged back open because the window was frozen and didn't drop that 1/2" or so. Not sure if it was the window or the latch was frozen.

Who else has ran into this? I suppose I will have to take extra care to scrape the ice off around the edge of the windows from now on. Or possibly even just roll the window down slightly before I get out of the car to prevent it from freezing to the seal. What a pain in the ass lol

Use a spray bottle of deicer fluid around the edges before opening the door.

Cover the windows with some towels if you park them outside.

You can spray silicone your gaskets as well. This will help keep them from freezing shut.

In case that fails me, I have dropped my seat pass through in case I have to get in via the trunk.

I may try some de-icer or homemade de-icer. A bit worried it would dry the door gaskets out though.

is this the norm in the new car market? I cannot imagine any benefit to having the power window move every time the door is open & closed. Just waiting for the day the window gets stuck in 1/2" down, potentially letting the rain in and then I have to rush over to the the auto repair.

I think it's more for the closing aspect. To have a better seal on the window.

Not sure how many new cars have this but its another reason to keep premium warranty on this car. lol

Just another day in the Windy City..... and another reason why I live in Florida.

Seriously, though would the remote start and the heater set to high help in a situation like this? But then the manual cars don't have remote start available. Guess I answered my own question. WD40 on the window seals, keeps the moisture out and prevent freezing.

my '07 has the same feature and in some cold NY winters i dont ever remember having this problem. The E-Brake line did freeze though as they were known to do in those cars and that is why i never use it for parking in the winter anymore.

I have had to open and close the door when the battery was dead and i remember it maybe hitting a tiny bit but nothing intense. on these newer cars do the windows now go up and under the body framing for the door?

It's only needed when the door doesn't have a frame around the window. I suspect most of the others are like the Mustang.

I wonder if the new Camaro windows don't go all the way DOWN. It has a lot in common with the ATS coupe and those leave a little window exposed when down because that was lightest way to eliminate any window vibration noise on rough roads. The Camaro is heavier so Chevy doesn't care as much about weight but they probably do care about cost more than Cadillac and it was also probably cheaper to leave them slightly up than add something else to accomplish the same thing.

This is my second winter with this car and i totally agree with you. It sucks! Be prepared if the water inside the door panel between the glass and door is frozen due to freezing rain or super cold temps cause that window won't go down! What you do is you spray deicer to the plastic frame area and carefully open the door, really slowly, don't yank on it, i am afraid you may break the window! After that you get in the car and run the heater and defrost at high for a pretty long period! You will also realize a rattle coming from the window while u are driving since the window didn't go up and sealed properly! This is totally normal! The car will make ton of rattling noises when you reach temps below zero! Trust me i know:doh: This car really hates low temps! I ve driven it last year at -20 degree F wind chill!

Yeah, I've just noticed this now too. My passenger window wouldn't go down until the car warmed up some.

I also noticed that the ice frozen in/on the body creaks when going over bumps/around corners.
