The new ZL1 is a beast performance wise. It laps Willow Springs Track as fast as a McLaren 650S which has 640hp and is a super car. Heres the link for motortrend article. http://www.motortrend.com/cars/chev...olet-camaro-zl1-first-test-brute-squad-goals/
So now we're gonna hear that the Camaro was built to compete with "super cars".

Poor choice of an example as some cars are built to handle in different situations/tracks. A better comparison would be running them on multiple tracks and see difference which I can tell you the ZL1 wouldn't evne compete with the 650 S. Also the 650 S Spider posted a 1:25.88 time @ willow springs by Randy Pobst.

It is laughable, but I don't see Ford beating a ~$64K base price with the GT500....not when it would step all over the GT350.

Of course, it will probably stomp the ZL1 into the ground, albeit at a higher base price..... :D
We are at the point with nothing with stomp anything. All of these cars are squeezing by single digit seconds or sometimes tenths past one another, by the best drivers they can muster. These are essentially perfect laps in near perfect scenarios. Not to mention that almost all of them are at the limit of mechanical grip with their tires. No matter which of the top dogs you buy, it's all going to be up to the driver (within reason).

New ZL1 is somewhat handicapped from big bro Vette in terms of straight line racing. I mean, it can barely beat out a S197 GT500.

It's going to be a sad day for the ZL1 owners when the GT500 comes out.. I bet you a paycheck it will have better times than the S197.
Weight is the only handicapp so far. 3900 lbs with all that cooling equipment and such. If Ford nails a light weight gt500 then it would be great, but, we might end up seeing a 4000 lbs car as well!

There's much more to a performance car then a straight line.

Which is why the GT500 should use all of the GT350 suspension.

Exactly.. it's like take a GT350 and supercharge it = GT500.

Oh my, what a beast of a car damn! Ford will have something up their sleeve!

Hopefully they will, but if they do, it could be faster then the gt350 on the track. Which could start a cilvil war in the Mustang forum.

Exactly. And it's going to come at a premium. They're not going to offer a 500 that is much quicker than an R and it be the same price.

What the, is that for the next Z28? No big bad 7.0 LS7? LT5 shows practically the same engine as the LT1. This engine is probably for the SS sedan?

GT500 is gonna be nasty, trust me. Ford didn't play when it debuted with the S197 and they ain't going to play now.
Yeah. A DOHC 6.2 is basically he same thing has an LT1. You're right.

No more SS sedan. And I really hope you're joking. But it doesn't seem like you are.

A 6.2L DOHC will be a big ass motor..larger than the Coyote which already is the size of the old FE series big blocks.

It may need somewhat quasi-exotic materials to keep it lighter, like titanium. If that's the case the price will be nearly prohibitive for a Camaro level motor (IE $25,000 motor).

This could happily live in a $150,000 "Zora" mid-engine Corvette but not in a $70,000ish Z/28.

I absolutely agree. But I'm dreaming. So in my dream it's going into the Z. So shush.
