Hi. So I am considering using a local Ziebart retailer to ceramic coat my mustang. I was guoted $900 with interest free payments for one year. They would clay bar before the coating and include the wheels. Guaranteed in writing for 10 years. Anyone have experience with them? Your feedback would be appreciated.

10 years? Dang man, they laying liquified diamonds on the car? If you drive the car, there is zero, I mean zero chance its going to last anywhere close to ten years. Find someone honest.

Second that emotion. You'd have to park her in a cool, dark, place, covered and never wash or drive her to get ten years.

I also highly recommend at least a single polishing paint correcting step before the coating. You won't believe how much better it will look. Claybar just gets the industrial fallout.

With the guaranteed for 10 years in writing, does that mean they will reapply the ceramic coat as needed on the body and wheels as well? I just got a quote last week from the shop that is going to be doing my tints, and they set a price of about $600 just for the wheels alone.

I asked them about possibly doing a package for paint correction, replacing the tint, the ceramic coat (3 year), and ceramic coating the wheels (which the receptionist had to ask about because she didn't understand why I wanted it), and the price was around $3k. Mind you, they are the premium tint/detail place in the area, but hot damn.

That price seems to good to be true, unless they can actually provide in writing that they will be reapplying any ceramic coat on the vehicle when it's needed, same with the wheels and the inner barrels. I'd also be weary of whom they leave it up to if a reapplication is needed. Don't need a 10 year coating that realistically lasts 3 years, 10 days, or a year and have them tell you nah it's good, we don't need to do anything.

OP's place is going to do the absolute bare minimum. Me personally, I'm not allowing them to touch my car.

With that said, I'm not bashing ceramic coatings as I think there is some value, but paying someone thousands to apply a temporary coating is IMO a waste of money.

Keep the car clean, clay bar, iron remover, mild paint correction here and there, and apply spray ceramic wax of your choice.

However, I do understand that if you live in the north (my condolences) then perhaps its worth a DIY, but to pay someone thousands is not happening. I cannot rationalize that.

Thanks guys. I certainly don't believe it will last anywhere near that long. I was just wondering if that price was worth 2-3 years of protection and ease of cleaning.

Well that is all up to you. If they can provide certain things in writing as far as the coating goes and for the wheels, i feel like that's a great deal. Shit, if the place i am going to for tints said a 10 year guaranteed replacement or recoating etc, on wheels nd body for 3k$ I'd throw down.

I second the above comments. ZERO chance it will last anywhere near 10 years. And if it is a daily driver, usually not worth it unless you are gonna religiously clean it and care for it. Like proper washes weekly and maintenance washes at least once a quarter.. My daily driver is coated and even then, it doesn't last with the kind of mileage I drive.

I wouldn’t spend money on ceramic without at least a level 1 paint correction.IMO

Tommy: For what you're getting, (clay bar and coating,) you could do it yourself for less than $200. Applying a ceramic coating is relatively easy with hardly any gotchas.

Where the big money enters the picture is when polishing is part of the equation. That's the labor-intensive part, not applying the coating, and thus where the charges mount up quickly.

Also, don't think a coating is like paint protection film, it's not, and it won't protect the paint from anything other than light scratching from washing, etc. What it does best is make the vehicle a breeze to wash as it makes the surface very slick and slippery.

Were I in your shoes and polishing wasn't a consideration, I would just buy the coating and apply it myself then spend the money you saved on a new set of wheels or similar.

Best of luck..

Thank you all . I have no problem applying a quality ceramic coating periodically myself. It's garage kept and not my daily driver. I can buy alot of microfiber towels and coatings for $ 900. Oh, he stated that doing the barrels of the wheels was extra.

As its not a daily and is garage kept, you don't necessarily need a ceramic coating. Any protection applied to a car like that is going to last a very long time, so the difference in longevity between a wax/sealant and ceramic coating isn't going to be heavily skewed toward the coating. The exception to that is wheels, where I think the time and effort removing, preparing and applying a coating is well worth it.

So, don't feel like you are missing out for going with a wax or sealant. At the moment, two of my garage queens have a polymer sealant, one has a coating. I know which enjoyed applying more, and it wasn't the longer term product. If that sounds like you, then take a look at Collinite 845 and/or Jescar PowerLock.

If you want to go with a coating, and if this will be your first time applying one, I would highly suggest starting with something like Gyeon Can Coat EVO or Armour Detail Supply Phobic. Both of these are extremely easy to apply and are more forgiving as you learn how to work with coatings. The great thing here is you can use these for paint, glass, trim and gloss black finishes. Just remember, less is more! The 1-year durability rating you would triple for a garage kept car.

If you have any questions, feel free to send me a PM, happy to help.
