The stick shift is the answer my friend. At the end of the day yes the auto is faster, but that 10 speed "hunts" for gears and is at times just goofy. The feeling of rowing your own gears literally never gets old. I could just be going to pick up milk at the grocery store a mile down the road and the car is fun to drive. Control over the revs, control over the poweband, a better sounding exhaust. A lot of folks don't think about that, with the auto you can't get to the high rpm range like you can the manual so the exhaust won't sound as good.
I've never really understood the traffic issue. I mean, you're probably in traffic 9-10% of your total driving time, so why would you sacrifice the joy of the manual???

Trust me, get the stick.
Four on the floor, rev me some more! or gimme six on the floor and I’ll row two more.

With a manual tranny, you’re literally operating the vehicle with “10 toes down”. See what AI says here about it, lol.

AI Overview

"10 toes down" is a slang phrase that generally means being fully committed, dedicated, and loyal to something or someone. It signifies a steadfast and unwavering commitment, often in the face of adversity.

unless you intend to eat breakfast, read your newspaper, and/or finished getting dressed while driving during your commute, get the manual.

I have one of each and I always go to the stick first. Even my wife would rather ride in the one with the stick.

Have had many manual cars in the past but I have so say I really like the 10 speed in my 19GT. I was originally looking for manual but came across a 10 speed and drove it and figured I can live with this for now.

That's what Mach1 guys like to tell themselves. Just be sure to wear white socks and sandals when you're driving it. It's the corvette of Mustangs.
That was pretty sharp dude. That hurt. :cwl:

When I bought my 2018 10r80 GT, it was pre-Covid and I was commuting 35 minutes a day in heavy traffic. I wanted a manual, V8 coupe like the muscle car gods intended, but the realities of daily driving in SF bay area were not conducive to manual transmission.

The 10r80 on stock tune was abysmal - it drove clunky and janky. That might have been because it was a lemon since I got it warranty replaced after years of dealer visits for aforementioned driving issues and eventual transmission failure. The new 10r80 I had installed in 2023 was smoother, but no where near perfect....I got a Wengerd tune and now it drives near perfect!

For track driving, I actually really enjoy the paddles - it lets me focus more on my driving and everything else going on. I'm already overstimulated enough on track as is without worrying about money shifting.

But if I were to go back, knowing covid and WFH would be in my future, I would have gotten the manual.

6 speed.

i actually have an automatic. Got it because it was hard to find a vert clutch car and when initially driving the car, i was impressed with how well the auto shifted and liked the option for sport mode.

now.. after owning the car for two weeks..

I freaking hate the automatic. Such a PITA.

its ALWAYS lugging the car down under 2k, and i live in a hilly area and it just sucks to constantly be hitting the down paddle as you start up the next hill, then, Halfway up the hill it shifts up a couple gears again and starts lugging the car again.

I end up constantly putting it in sport mode and then shifting to “drive” when I get off an exit ramp or come to a stop sign because its such a PITA to down shift all those gears and if its a turning stop, you cant reach the paddle and then the car lugs out when it hits first.

If it had an “OD” button that eliminated 9th and 10th, it would be more tolerable, but, it doesn’t.

So pissed i didn’t hold out for a manual.

I have said it before, and I will say it again "Don't settle when buying a Mustang or every day you get in it you will regret it." SELL it and buy what you want! Then enjoy your ride. Ride with pride.

You should keep it in Sport mode unless its raining. Only solution for the 10r80 is tune it or sale it. It drives perfect to me in sport mode. I had the Ford Performance Tune first and then Wengerd. Even the stock tune it just drove better in sport mode. It stops the gear hunting.

YMMV
