Long time reader first time posting.

Wife n I have been talking about a mustang since the coyote was released. The throw back style of the 197 also caught our eyes. The biggest thing was the thought of rev’ing a mustang past 5500 rpm was intoxicating to me and she grew up with chevys but had a love affair with first gen fastback mustangs. Years passed and the serious car discussions had turned into the “someday conversation”. Careers, house, kids etc it had become an afterthought. Then one day (December 2018) we realized we didn’t have to wait any longer. Being mustang fans we were searching for a first gen as it was always a dream to have that body style and throw a high horsepower motor into it (we were looking at how to stuff a coyote in one of course). We found a couple of candidates for the transplant, but reconsidered the proposition. Doing the swap and some customization would’ve brought us a car that would ultimately make us happy on the weekends once the build was complete, but what about now?! Daily drivability? Creature comforts? (wife is a service Manager for MB so those are a must, OK OK those are for me too). We opened ourselves up to late model mustangs, and we were able to find a car with the options that we needed (similar set up to what the gen 1 would’ve turned into). Leather, black on black, pp1 and three pedals. We also got an option on the car that we didn’t expect... a cold start tick :), we got a warranty so we’re gonnna send it. Since it was the end of the year there were deals to be had. We were able to strike a deal from a local dealer that we couldn’t pass up. Now a few thousand miles in, the wife and I have discussions over who gets to take the beast to redline. She even takes part in the mod descisions. We’ve got a Frankenstein exhaust system getting ready to be installed and looking at suspension next then a full matte black wrap or paint job. No plans for motor work. Ultimately no regrets on not building a first gen but that still isn’t out of the question... that’s a discussion for another day. We’re extremly happy with everything about this car, and can’t wait to take a drive in it again when the rain clears up tomorrow.
Update to this story. Wife’s recently got a promotion and the commute has become a little longer. Since the new job she really hasn’t driven the mustang as the drives have slow and long. 3 pedals in SF Bay Area traffic is rough. She still thoroughly enjoys the mustang. So what did she do today? Traded my Infiniti G37S for a fully loaded 16 pp ecoboost auto ruby red :like:

When I dated my ex-wife (farmers daughter) she asked me "you have a horse?" when I mentioned my Mustang. That was a sign. Could have saved me tens of thousands had I listened.

Nowadays, you'd get a ticket...
Oh hell yes, back then the police didn't write tickets on private property, these days cops can write them for anywhere.

She would not get sick as much if she looked at the horizon more. Burying her face in her phone is probably the reason she's getting sick...
Mine does the same thing, for 2 decades she didn't because she would get sick reading or looking at a phone, now suddenly she stares at that damn phone like every other zombie, can't get her to stop, sick or not.

I'm soon to be 65.
I don't ask permission to buy anything since I have the funds. (daughter isn't getting it)
In the last 20 years; I've bought 20 new Harleys. All of 'em; cash. Some of the cars as well.
Never bought cars or trucks for sport (one every now and then) until my Grandson came along.
Although I've had 30 to 35 vehicles, each one wasn't a hassle with her to buy.

I had the '15 Camaro (which the wife liked) and now the '17 Mustang (that I don't like)
When buying the Harleys I'd say; "give me a check, I'm going to trade bikes".
Never a problem.
She rides with me, more now that she is retired as well.

We never fought over money except when we first got married, me wanting to buy everything.

Last December I took a GT for a test drive. Mentioned it at Christmas to a nephew. Either my wife overheard or may have seen the 2019 Mustang brochure. At any rate I ordered it. A month later she asked if I had ordered one yet. Said yes. She says I guess that means you're not going to get a '69 Cobra (if I found one). Told her no, I would get that too. The "rest of the story" is I've been selling most of a lifetime acquisition of car parts as well as a couple of cars. Since she is a control freak, I put the sales money in a separate account for which she has no access nor knows how much is in it. Since the Mustang didn't come out of our regular accounts or investments, she had nothing to complain about.

My wife would have loved my Mustang. She died in June of 2018. I'm not sure I would have bought this car if she was still alive because she always got the "good" car since she took my Camaro when we wed in 1980. I started out wanting to buy a new Harley (we honeymooned on a motorcycle), then a convertible Mustang. When I started looking, this unwanted 2018 new EB Premium was the same cost as a Harley. I have never owned a car 'just for fun'. I paid cash for it from an emergency fund, and replenish it at the rate of $75 direct deposit every Monday. Since I am a boring old fart, insurance isn't an issue.

Now, 5500 miles since April 18, 2019 I've never had so much fun in a weekend car. My daily is a company provided F150.

She would have enjoyed this.

...just the general body shape, appearance from the rear and engine has like a 'turbo' lag on accel.
I'm a big guy; 6'3'+ and 225lbs. Should have stayed w/Camaro or a Challenger.............

Whatever you're taking, you might need to ease off a bit. The s550 has one of the best asses of all time. Also, the 'lag' is all in the stock throttle-by-wire, and there's cheap plug-in, warranty friendly mods to fix that. I'm also 6' 2", buck 90, and she's incredibly comfortable.
Spoken like a true new Yorker. Gottalovit.

Sorry for your loss. Enjoy that car to the fullest knowing you've got your guardian angel riding shotgun with you.

My wife loves our ‘18 premium and the cars name has her name on the vanity plates, We opted for a10 so she could drive it too. She was scared of the power ramp up so would only drive on rain/snow mode. But now on E85, shes afraid to drive it even more so and hasn’t touched it since the first time she spun 1st gear on rain mode lol.
