Hey folks,
So for those who new to the "spray can", if you purchase a matte black window louver for your s550, how do you properly clear coat it to the shine glossy finish?

I thought a matte black would look good on my ruby red s550 but it doesn't give that pop.

any idea on what type of spray can i cna get at my
local autozone/oreilly that can bring the gloss? and how do get that matte to gloss finish?

Is it common to use a spray can for louvers? If you're going to do that, clean it up real good with IPA and then paint it with gloss black spray. Krylon Fusion doesn't need a primer, is flexible enough to bond to plastic, and holds real well to the elements. That's what I would use but I've never done louvers.

I would recommend something like Spraymax 2k clear coat. It's not the cheapest but as far as rattle cans go it can give a nice top coat. I used it on a custom painted helmet.

Agree with just repainting it gloss black vs just trying to add clear on. You’re guaranteed to get the finish you want that way vs just adding clear on if there are imperfections in the surface now that will be sealed in

If you decide on Spraymax 2K clear (amazing stuff from a spray can) or any other type of 2K product containing isocyanates, be careful to protect your lungs and eyes.

I will advise the contrary view. I have had good luck with gloss clear over even flat black. In fact I think it is easier for gloss to self level than for black paint.

I suggest do it right. This isn't a '95 civic we're talking about...

Go to an automotive paint store. Get their gloss black spray paint, with several thin coats with wet sanding in between, then a couple of thin coats of 2k clear with more sanding in between.

The absolute best way to paint window louvers is to hold them over a garbage can. Quickly release your grip and watch gravity do its job sending them into the can at 32 ft/s². Repeat for all window louvers you own.
