Nope - they come from the factory without any tint. Any mustangs you see on a dealer lot with tint have been installed by the dealer before sale.
Incorrect, most cars come with a dye in the windows from the factory rangning from 7-11% with the mustang roughly being 8%. I got 40% tint, combine that with the factory dye and it came out to be 32%.

I thought the factory glass on my 2015 Mustang looked pretty heavily tinted. I put a light meter on it today and it measured at 70%, meaning it lets 70% of the ambient light in. If I have an aftermarket tint rated at 40 applied, the result is 28% (70 x .40). That is illegal in the majority of states which have a minimum set at 35% for the front side windows. Be careful if you want to stay legal.

I google my state tint waiver and printed it out off my state's website.

Odd, I got 40% as well and it put me at 32%. How did you measure your tint? I went to an inspection station and got measured with the same tool state police use. I guess it could also matter what type of tint you get? Maybe not all 40% tint is the same... Kinda like buying clothes

Do all 2015 Mustangs have a factory 70% tint? The models I have looked at didn't seem to have a noticeable tint (it could have been the lighting).

yes. All cars have the windows tinted slightly. If you look at the tint laws website that was posted on this thread it will say "net" or "film" the net includes the factory tint, so in my case I went with 40% tint which came out to be 32% 40-32= 7% from the factory and the legal limit in my state is 35% so I am ILLEGAL. If I were in a state that had "film" and I went with the same 40% on top of the factory tint then I would be fine because the film is rated at the limit.

I’m an avid photographer and have years of experience using a light meter.I measured the light passing through the front side window factory glass with a pro-grade photographer’s light meter. The average result was the factory tint blocked 30% of the ambient light from entering the car. I should mention that light measurements through glass are also affected by the angle of the light source striking the glass and the reflective characteristics of the glass. I did several readings in varying light conditions and angles to arrive at my average.
Based on my measurements of the factory glass, I am planning to have 50% 3M Crystalline tint installed, which theoretically will reduce the light by half, which should result in a final reading of 35%. I’ll post end result readings.
Let me add that I have no knowledge of what tools the authorities have to measure the amount of light that passes through the glass. If indeed my post-tint readings indicate an average measure of 35% or higher, my light meter readings will have their day in court if I’m ever issued a ticket.

My girlfriend is from Bethlehem, got her car tinted here Shades of Gray
They did a great job, if you have black interior go with slightly lighter tint.
She got 25% in the back at 35% in the front, and has not got hassled in Bethlehem.

Do not do the windshield, the strip at the top is up to you but the whole thing I would strongly suggest not getting it. As for the the brand of tint its up to you. I have had 3M in the past and the tint is fine

I wouldnt rely on a cameras light meter, since that is not what is issued by the state to determine legal/illegal. The tint shop should have a meter to test before or go to a local inspection station and have it checked for free.

+1 for Shades of gray I've heard nothing but good things about them and plan on taking my mustang there when it comes in. Thinking 20% all around. I currently have 35% on my WRX and its too light but have had 15% previously. Oddly enough I never got pulled over for 15% but have been stopped one time for 35% but I think the car attracts the attention more than the tint. I drive all over eastern PA near 476 and it seems like most cops don't bother with tint

Does the tint go on the inside or outside of the windows? Wondering if people generally remove the stickers on their windows first ? (The small Ford ones, Sirius, etc.)

it goes over the top of the window and shines a light through the window. kind of looks like a C shape that slides over the top. The shop should remove those stickers before starting

edit: i thought you meant the meter lol but yes tint goes on the inside

Tint is applied to the inside of the window. The stickers will be removed before the tint is applied. You will not be able to roll your windows down for about a week (possibly more with the cool weather) so that the tint can dry.

My recommendation for tint film is anything ceramic. I have 15% F1 Pinnacle full ceramic applied on my truck. Ceramic film blocks out more heat than any other film on the market but also costs more. Stay away from metallic film as it interferes with GPS and cell phone signals.
