Will a paint pen correct this ?!

OP, I certainly hope you get the finished product looking like it never happened. Big kudos to everyone who posted tips and ”how to” comments and pictures.

It’s posts like this that make the forum great…..someone having an issue and the community stepping in to offer assistance without any drama or nonsense .

Dude seriously though , this is the nicest car community I’ve ever been involved with, most places they’d probably just call me a dumb ass for making the mistake I made

Well thanks you guys have been awesome , hopefully this paint process goes smoothly and comes out looking decent , I’ll update this thread as it comes along hopefully it doesn’t take too long to fix

Alright so quick update I went to my local body shop and he said for about 200$ He can square off an area that he’d re paint and correct the damage after sanding it down and then re apply a clear coat that could match the rest of the bumper . Does this sound legit ?

Alright good to know thank you! I had another shop say they’d need 700$ to re paint the entire bumper and anything else wouldn’t fix it but I didn’t believe him

In regards to methods, it all depends upon the results you want and your OCD level. Honestly the Dr Color Chip is the simplest, least intrusive method and guarantees that you cannot make a mistake. You simply use the clear liquid to clean up and start over if you need to. The paint on these cars is so thin that I gave up on involved methods of chip repair. I figure at some point down the line I will pay for a proper paint job if the scars get too many and I'm going to keep the car.
These aren't meant to be show cars by any means and the manufacturing process does not achieve perfection. We are all getting a pretty good bargain for what the car produces in terms of horsepower, handling, interior features, etc...

Yeah if they're good and have awesome reviews then go for it. I had quotes from $300-$1,200 before but I decided to fix it on my own for $40.

I figured If the guy can correct it to look at least better than it sits now for 200$ then why not , just didn’t really want to pay 700$ for an entire bumper to be re done over such a small amount of damage

Understood. I paid $150 to have a small dent removed from the trunk. I was more referring to the DIY methods which involve wet sanding, apply clear coat, more sanding etc.... Unless you have body shop experience it can be a risk. It also depends upon how much free time you have to deal with it. I was just stating my opinion that the Dr. Color Chip method gives good results with zero risk on messing it up or creating a worse situation that would require an even more expensive repair...

200 USD for that job not only sounds reasonable, but I think it is really good price. If you don't have the right tools, you would have to buy them and it's like at least half of that price. If you buy a rotary polisher not a DA polisher, it will cost you 50-60 USD. Then you need 5000 and 7000 grit sandpaper, which is 2 USD both. Then add quality rubbing compound for rotary polisher that's another 20-25 USD / each (I use Scholl Concepts S30+ for hologram removal and S40 for final polishing). Also you need a polishing pad for that rotary polisher, which is another 18 USD. Ford Service Paint Pen is another 15-20 USD. That's like 120+ USD just for the material and tolls. So paying another 80-100 USD for the work ain't a bad price.

The thing is, that you will not use all of the rubbing compound at once and you will keep the tools for a few years so you can always repair some dents, road chips or completely polish the car when you feel like it. The key is to choose the right tools for the right job. I'm looking forward to see the final result

Yeah purchasing the tools and getting the added benefit of owning them forever is nice but I don’t enough experience or knowledge to take the risk of fixing this on my own so if a body shop is willing do this for 200$ like you said it sounds like a good deal, I’m hoping it comes out well and will definitely update the thread with pics when finished , one shop claimed they’d have to re paint the entire bumper to fix the issue but I called BS on that and then I found the shop that I’m making an appointment with tomorrow who said redoing the entire bumper was over kill so hopefully he’s right !

It sounds good but does it sound to good to be true ? I don’t want it come out looking like crap , the shop has good reviews online

Honestly, I know I was supposed to prep the area before base and top coat but I didn't. I just cleaned the area let it dry then base and top.
It was pretty bad before.
