Hey guys my I had a sticker on my back bumper that I wanted removed and during the process of taking it off some paint came off with it , the chip is a bit larger than a pinky nail. Would a paint pen hide this well enough to not be too noticeable thanks !

I'm sure it will help, Dave but it's pretty much impossible to make a chip invisible with a paint chip pen. At least it has been in my experience.
I figured it won’t be 100% good as new but as long as it’s not blatantly obvious and for the most part hides it I’ll be happy

I’ve been seeing that a lot on here , what exactly is better about it if you don’t mind explaining ?
I first used Dr. Colorchip on my Ruby Red 15’. It was recommended by a good friend. RR is a difficult color to match. I found the process easy and the coverage excellent. Larger/deeper chips will need multiple coats to level out the paint but that is true with any of the touch ups.

Checkout the videos on YT and see if it the right solution for you.

I use dr colorchip. Dr colorchip is much better than a pen.

With a paint pen you can remove it completely not just make it "not to be too noticable". The only difference between the results is how much work and time do you want to put in. I ordered paint pen directly from my local Ford dealer. First step is to clean the surface and let it dry. Then you paint the chip and you let the sun burn the paint for a few days. The paint will shrink in volume over the next few days. After let's say 2-3 hotter days, you wet sand the surface and remove excess paint until it is smooth. Some say 2500 grit sandpaper does the job, but I do not recommend using 2500 grit sandpaper. It will leave pretty deep holograms in the clear coat which makes it harder to correct. Instead use 5000 and 7000 grit (put them in a jar with water and soap and let them soak for at least 1-2 hours). It will take much longer to sand excess paint down, but it is much safer to use them and easier to remove holograms. If there is still some dent visible, you repeat to process. If the dent is not visible after 2-3 applications and the surfase is perfectly smooth on a touch, you can apply clear coat. Also keep in mind that clear coat also needs few days to mature. Finally you wet sand excess clear coat. Holograms after wet sanding can be easilly removed with good cut compound by hand, but you will get the best results using rotary or DA machine, just make sure you use the right compound for the method you choose. This will take 1-2 weeks with some 20-30 minutes of work, but you can make the rock/paint chip completely invisible. I used Scholl Concepts orange pad and S30+ and S40 coupound to remove 5000 grit sanding hallmarks and hairlines that you can see on the last photo. Hope it helps :)

Touch up paint will help, I got one from the dealership a while back. I had something similar to this and it worked, a lot better than before.

Wow that was extremely informative thank you so much honestly , I’m very scared to use any sand paper out of fear of hitting spots that as of now are in great shape , do you try to avoid sanding anything but specifically the part your re painting or do you do the general area of it ? Again thank you!

Did you sand it at all ? Or just paint and clear coat , I’m a little nervous about making more issues with sand paper as I’ve never done it before

Honestly, I know I was supposed to prep the area before base and top coat but I didn't. I just cleaned the area let it dry then base and top.
It was pretty bad before.

Dave try using just the touch up (as per direction) first. It will be good practice in building up the paint in multiple layers. If, after you are done, it is still to noticeable to you then you can move into something a little more involved. I would not suggest practicing sanding on a brand new car.

@MakoShark writeup is excellent but not for beginners.

You're welcome :) I was scared too and I also wouldn't wet sand clear coat without any knowledge. I spent good two weeks researching how to do it properly and also called some local paint shops to get some advices on how to do it and what to avoid. But to tell the truth, I never done this before and this was my first time.

I worked on a general area about 3 inches (10 cm) wide with the rock chip in the middle. I folded the sandpaper so it doesn't slip under my fingertips and kept the surface wet and slick all the time. It is extremely important to brush it off very gently and not to rush things. See that I dont use any sanding block or that I didn't put the sandpaper on a pencil? It is because you can feel the excess paint with your fingertips and control the strokes much better untill it is absolutely smooth.

Youtube videos recommend using 2500 grit wet sandpaper, but I will repeat it once again - AVOID it at any cost. For a Ford paint and clear coat I found it to be too coarse. 5000 grit will work much better and the major part of the job should be done with 7000 grit. I will show you the difference between 2500 grit and 7000 grit wet sanding.

This is how I've been driving my car for almost two weeks untill cut/polishing compound arrived so I could polish and remove those sanding marks. But you really have to fully understand what you are doing before you even attempt to start with it. It is very easy to oversand that area and damage it! The key is not to rush things. Thank god my father at least had some previous knowledge and experiences with the correction of 1 stage paint runs. However even he had no experiences with 3 stage paint correction, but still he was leaning over my shoulder and checking me like "There is still to much paint... Go on... Still too much paint... you can feel it with your fingertips... has to be smooth...". He kept an eye on me like for the first 20 minutes and then left me doing all the other chips like "Ok.. no time for this, I got to do something else, it's your car... in the worst case scenario, you can get it repainted..." :D

If you have nobody to check you out on doing this, but you still want to give it a try, find some old hood or any piece of metal on a junkyard with old car paint on it, and try to wet sand it first before starting with your Mustang. You should never learn how to wet sand car paint directly on your Mustang. It definitely is not a job for beginners, but it doesn't mean you cannot lean it if you give it some time (5-10 hours practicing). It doesn't mean you spend 10 hours sanding something, but if you do the prep work, clean it, let it dry, clay it, wipe it off clean, build layers of paint and sand it back, learn on your mistakes, get back to it in a few days.... yeah, you spend some time learning how to do it.

Hope it helps :)

Surprised it washed off your skin but not your nails.
