Why two piece driveshaft?

I see lots of aftermarket driveshafts (one piece) for the S550 out there. Why did Ford use a two piece with extra bearing/joints to fail?

For crash impact saftey. The two pc. allows the motor and trans to break away forcing it down away from occupants.
