I feel I have 2 cars in one. I have one for nice sunny days (top down). And I have one for not so nice days (top up). Either way I have a choice. My car will be a summer only car. Again, my choice. I think all these cars are damn sexy, convertible or not. Everyone enjoy your mustangs. I know I will.

I've never really liked Convertibles my dad owns a 2002 35 Anniversary Trans Am Vert and although nice even here in SoCal he rarely drives with the top down. It really depends on the climate you live in and few places in the United States allow at least 200 days of good weather.
Well that's a wasted opportunity and THIS IS the right climate for a convertible.

BTW the heater works great and allows top down driving even on those nippy days.

But, I guess you are more on topic than I am, cause the thread is "why so few convertibles", not, why do I have one.

At the risk of poorly reenacting the graduation scene from In And Out, "I'm gay."

Do What?
So to own a Vert and have the balls to put the roof down, you must be a really confident outgoing person?
Sorry what a load of total dodo
I am very much not a LOOK AT MY CAR/LOOK AT ME sort of person, which is what a top-down convertible says. What's so hard to understand, unless it's that I can put my finger on a specific reason instead of laying it off as just another "not a convertible person" vote?

This is my reason for me only. Others who don't prefer the 'vert may or may not see it the same way.

It's just a car. I drive it to enjoy, not to be seen or not seen. Sure, the compliments are nice, but not necessary. Plenty of cars in So Cal, and this is just another one.:headbonk:

you say you are NOT a "look at me" sort of person, you drive a Mustang, cause you are. you clean it, you mod it, you want the car to get noticed.
As for a Vert saying "Look at Me" ??
Why, believe me i could be invisible when i drive the car, its the car that gets the attention, when i was driving all over Europe, i was there just to answer questions about the car,
read this article from am English paper, very good and very true, and its a fastback

Trust me when I tell you that you've got that all wrong. I drive it because it's a fun car to drive, on the street or around a road course. Yes, I mod it, but absolutely none of that is done for appearance sake (aka other peoples' benefit). You might not recognize that it was modified at all, unless I've got the track wheels & tires on it or the lap timer set up on the top of the dash. I actually prefer it that way, lets the clueless remain so.

Sure, make it bright yellow and you'd get noticed even if it was a Fiat 500. But take a convertible in any color and tell me you don't notice right away when its top is down. I sure notice, and not for trying to.

That writer has no clue why people like me might buy a Mustang. While his thoughts may match up fairly well with your outlook, agreement between two people still doesn't make it a universal truth. He goes on and on about the things that never mattered to me about a car and says absolutely nothing about the part that does. An Englishman writing a car review and saying nothing about the driving & handling? Maybe you guys should hold a tribal council and vote him off the island (I trust you've heard of the 'Survivor' TV show).

To each his own... I love the looks of the convertible, top up or down. I also like not limiting myself to the same driving experience year round. I have read in this thread that many don't like the lines of a convertible, I disagree.

I can't help but take a second look every time I walk away from parking it (top up or down).

I have yet to see a coupe do this...

Life's a choice. Not my daily driver, but me & grandkids sure enjoy it. When FL days get to hot, evenings are just fine.

More expensive impractical and they look terrible with the top up, which in most areas is most of the time. The only way I would buy a convertible is if it was a second car which i hope to have one day. For a convertible i would not choose a mustang though, I would do a 2 seat roadster like a Boxster or BMW Z.
I was lokoking for a 4 seater vert and compared the mustang to the Audi S5 and BMW 435 (B for boring BTW)
Considering price, fun factor and features the stang came in the winner. Comes down to what you are looking for. If I wanted a 2 seater it probably would have been a Carrera 4

I would have bought a convertible, but unfortunately Ford Australia in their infinite wisdom decided to only sell them here with an automatic transmission, so that killed it for me.
