More expensive impractical and they look terrible with the top up, which in most areas is most of the time. The only way I would buy a convertible is if it was a second car which i hope to have one day. For a convertible i would not choose a mustang though, I would do a 2 seat roadster like a Boxster or BMW Z.
With all due respect I disagree. Not with the second car thing, I agree with that. I have driven the boxter on the track in Birmingham at the Porsche driving school. It is fantastic and I highly recommend it. It was just a bit too small in the cockpit for me. I owned a Z3 and it was too small in every practical way.

The Mustang convertible has a back seat which comes in handy when picking up kids - can't do that in a two seater. And there is good trunk space, although the space in the Boxter is surprising. The Mustang is also faster. It is not as nimble - few things are.

I appreciate that the lines of convertibles not often being as good as the coupe often. That is why I went with the 911 coupe - and their convertible has almost the same line as the coupe. If I did not have a sport coupe, I might have been more tempted by the fastback, it is brilliant. But I like the way the Mustang looks with the top up, and I think nothing looks better with the top down.

In Your Opinion
Why do people feel they have to push their views down other people's throats
if we all liked the same thing, would be a boring old world, I mean I like the Red Sox and found Fenway Park, amazing, mind you, not a good idea asking for a Babe Ruth T Shirt in the shop :headbonk:

I've come to realize people are either convertible people or not.
I'm betting that it 90% comes down to this ↑↑↑ .

For me, I've rented convertibles but I don't think I've ever been extroverted enough to actually want to own one. That's despite the bike riding in my background (and that I still maintain an MC endorsement on my driver's license).

I know I don't care for seeing where the bows are underneath the fabric with convertible tops up, but I've gotten past initial objections to appearance before.

The Mustang I now have was bought for performance driving and the modifications to go with that. As would any future Mustang (or any other car primarily for my use as opposed to hers, for that matter).

Eye of the beholder

Looks are a matter of personal taste. Mine is that the 6g Stang vert looks great, top up or down... and by the reactions I get, I would say a lot of people agree with that.

Like I said, it's my 5th vert in a row. My 2 previous verts were roadsters...one na and the last a 290 hp turbo. Stick and auto, respectively. I loved the roadsters, lots of fun on the twisties, etc., but the cramped space got old after a few years.

Got my '15 Mustang late in the MY, so I didn't have much say in how it came. The premium goodies were not on my must have list, but I must admit, I am loving the extra luxury. Top is the best I ever had, so far. No leaks in the rain or in the washing. Quiet and fast to go up and down. Only issue I have had, is the trim on the drivers side came off a couple times, but I finally got it seated properly (without any tools) and it is fine now.

I love convertibles, I have always wanted a mustang, and I have long missed having a V8 car. It all came together for me last summer!

Oh, and although my first choice was ruby red, I love the 3X yellow. It is my 3rd yellow car, and I have never regretted that color, esp in sunny so cal.

Bottom line is...if you have ever wanted a convertible, go for it. Treat yourself, if you can. The best top is the open sky! :clap2:

I've never really liked Convertibles my dad owns a 2002 35 Anniversary Trans Am Vert and although nice even here in SoCal he rarely drives with the top down. It really depends on the climate you live in and few places in the United States allow at least 200 days of good weather.

Whether or not your father drives with the top down, he knows he always has the option. It's pretty cool option to have.

Oh I know, just not a big fan of convertibles. To each his own. I will say cruising the California beaches is a great time to have a convertible.

Do What?
So to own a Vert and have the balls to put the roof down, you must be a really confident outgoing person?
Sorry what a load of total dodo
Yes I can understand if people are scared to drive a vert, as going though cities and stopping at lights, anyone can jump in, or lean in, and you need to be very carful to NOT put anything on the passenger or back seats, cause if someone leans in and takes it, you are 100% screwed.
For me, and I am not that outgoing, but after the MR2 and the T Top, when i saw the Crossfire wanted to try a Vert as they made it in a Vert. With the Supras i owned, there was not that option.
With the Mustang again there was the option and not much difference in price on a used motor. This one has cost around 3k more for the Vert, but after 2 of them, I love them, even in the UK with no much sunshine. Topless driving feels so different to driving with the top up.
I think with the used S550s the vert prices will come down to not much more than the fastbacks

Except as you know being from Dirty Jerzey as well, there are those El Nino-ish days in the off months where you can have the top down

Besides, I wanna travel down south, whats better than a sun dog?
Yea those days would be great. If you had them as often as the 30 degree with sleet and rain days. Just not enough nice weather in the North East to justify the extra expense. April-May super. Sept-October again super. The rest of the year.:censored:

This is my 7th mustang. I was not intending to buy a vert. I wanted a coupe, I still have my 02 GT Vert and I was not getting rid of it anytime soon. My First three Mustang either came with a sun roof I had one installed. I always wanted a vert and in 2001 that came true when I purchased my 02. It has served me well for almost 15 years no leaks and it has been outside 24/7 it whole life. Yes I have had to replace the top twice, but it was mainly for cosmetic reasons. After I gave my 2012 to my Neice it was time for me to get a new car for me. I was pretty dead set on a coupe, because I Like the fastback look better than the current verts. They has this 16 GT vert in the showroom the Color and interior was exactly what I was looking for. I almost bought it twice, but just could not justify spending 50 K on a Mustang and I did not need another vert or V8 since I was keeping my 02. On June 26th I went In to test drive an ecoboost , GTPP manual and GT Auto to make up my mind and order a 17. After I drove the auto GT the sales manager Told me that they just announced 0 for 60 on the 16's. So I had them try to fins a oxford White with Redline interior. the closet they could come was one with redline Recaros, I do not like the Recaros they squeeze me. So I bought the vert and I have enjoyed it to the tune of 1300 miles so far there are no leaks and the noise is only a little louder than my 12 with the to up. My only complaint is that the black cloth top is going to drive me crazy trying to keep it clean. Here are pics of my 02 and 16. I am getting the 02 resprayed at this time.

We do generally get a few more good days than that here in NJ, but your point is well taken. First, I hope not to be in JerZ much longer - it is awful, until I start really looking at everywhere else (for us). Second, it is not like the poster from the UK -summer for them comes on a Wednesday! :D lol. I have been all over the UK and it is wonderful - but not historically the warmest place.

Third, I do think that the ability to put the top down makes those days you can even better - and on the other days I still have a Mustang GT premium package - it will not melt in rain and cold and the Coupe will be just as difficult to drive in the snow.

And, to return to the questions that started it all, if you see a vert out there (the 1 out of 5 of us) it is going to be GT premium 75% of the time. And I find those numbers interesting and a little difficult to explain - despite all of our best effort here.

The only thing seeing all your posts is doing is making me second, third, fourth and fifth guess my color choice. You all have some great looking cars. Drive them in good health!
