(?) I got all my hair and wear a hat during hotter days. Can't beat the vert for night time cruises here in SW FL
My post was more in jest than serious. But, my car is a DD and I'm not a regular hat wearer. I wear my lack of hair with a shave cut and pride..lol

I'm not a convertible guy anyway, but the squished in a rollover factor alone would steer me away.

There is something to be said for that...of course my wife just increased my term life policy:doh:

I was torn between the 2 but there is more headroom in the vert with the top up than the coup and I always wanted a vert.

We rented on in Hawaii when they came out and the family loved it.
I work from home office most of the time with occasional travel around New England and I have another car that I use for that.

The lines of the S550 convertible just do not have the visual impact of sleek, badass look of the fastback.
However, I think the S197 'vert looks better than the the S197 fastback.
Interesting as, having had both, I have the opposite view.

I feel the S550 looks great as a vert, whereas the S197 looked like someone just chopped off the roof and stuck some fabric on it. I'll go even further to say that, especially in certain colors (i.e. - TY or CO), the S550 vert actually looks better than the coupe.

This is why variety is the spice of life...

I was a little concerned about no rollover protection as well when I was considering a convertible, but it doesn't even cross my mind anymore.

Half the time my top is up and the other half it's down. I usually drive with it down at night though. Exhaust sounds twice as better which makes driving way more enjoyable for me.

After all the modding, I'm really happy with the way it looks now. Not really a huge fan of other verts though with the exception of like 2-3 on here.

I've owned year round convertibles as DD in NY since the mid 90s. I have never ONCE had any issue with a convertible top. Not one leak, not one tear, not one mechanical issue. I have never been cold in the winter because of a convertible. There are a few days in the summer - especially if you are in heavy traffic - when it is just too damn hot and you need AC. It happens.

I am coming from a long line of BMWs - most recently my M3 Vert. When I placed my order for the Mustang, I was also considering a Porsche C4S Vert - which would have been nearly three times as expensive. I simply couldn't justify the Porsche premium. The Mustang is a very different car, but gives me everything I need/want (especially a stick shift!)

Damn, I am in SW FL and was just out cruising with the top down. Doesn't get too hot here until July. The air conditioned seats do help extend the top down weather.
Yeah, it's certainly a subjective thing and depends on what you consider 'too hot'. For me, anything north of 80 degrees, I'd rather have a top. 60-75 degrees, I wish I had one.

Loud & skin cancer....there are two reasons.
What is loud, the car or outside in general? If its the exhaust, that's probably due to modding. If its wind, there are add-ons to fix that, like windscreens.:)

As for skin cancer, wear a cap and sunscreen.:)

It has a lisp....?
How would anyone know? Apparently its loud, so you wouldn't be able to hear a lisp.

Wow, all those reasons not to buy a convertible. I'll list one in favor of a drop top.

46 years on motorcycles has taught me there is no better way to travel the roadways than being exposed to the open air. I ride and have ridden through wind, rain, sun, snow. I even got caught in a Tornado once. I have done so many Thousand mile days on bikes I can't count them. I have never had a really flashy bike, but I have had really fast ones. Riding isn't about being seen on something that others think looks cool, it's about being different than the masses, you take risks and you enjoy the feeling

If you chose the coupe to race it great. If you chose the coupe over the convertible because it looks better, okay, it's your decision. If you chose the coupe because it offers more protection, well I guess you understand your fear. Those of us who are enjoying the open air bought the car because of what it allows us to do. We are a part of the traveling experience, we aren't just looking at it thru the window openings. The S550 convertible is the best performing way to take part in trips across this great country. Doesn't matter if you are just heading to the store for groceries or tooling up PCH. Whipping through Deals Gap or cruising the local boulevard. With the top down you're a part of the trip not just a passenger. And that's my .02
